Unemployment numbers improved last month

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The latest unemployment numbers for Hutchinson show the rate in October was at 3.7 percent, a drop from the 4 percent reported for the city in September by the Kansas Department of Labor. That number is also considerably lower than the 5.1 percent reported for the same period last year.

The rate for Reno County also saw a slight drop. The rate last month was at 3.6 percent, down from the 3.8 percent in September and the 4.6 percent in October of last year.

According to the latest numbers, 1,073 residents of the county were without work last month, most of those in the city of Hutchinson.

All of the neighboring counties also saw a drop in their rates last month when compared to September.

Statewide, preliminary estimates show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.6 percent in October. This was down from 3.8 percent in September and down from 4.3 percent in October 2016.
