The unemployment numbers for July were released early this morning and show the rate in Hutchinson again has climbed some. According to the Kansas Department of Labor figures, the rate for Hutchinson is at 7.2% in July, a slight increase from 6.9% in June.

That translates to 1-thousand, 542 local residents are unemployed from a workforce of 21-thousand, 321.

Reno County also saw a slight increase going from 5.6% in June to 5.9% in July, but still below the 6.2% for the same period last year. There were 2-thousand, 76 county residents looking for work last month, but over two thirds of those were in the city of Hutchinson.

Surrounding counties also saw a slight increase with Harvey County sitting at 6.3 %, up from 6 % in June. Kingman County now sits 5.4%, up from 4.8% in June.

McPherson County was at 4.5% in June and their rate increased to 4.8% in July. Pratt County went from 4.2% in June to 4.7% in July, and Rice County also saw an increase going from 4.4% in June to 4.8% in July. Stafford County also up from the previous month. Their rate in July sits at 5.2%, compared with 4.7% in June.

The most populated county in the area is Sedgwick County and their rate is at 8%, up from 7.5% in June. The unemployment rate in Wichita is at 7.8%, with 24-thousand, 221-resident of that city out of work, but that’s from a work force of over 310-thousand.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Kansas was 6.3 percent, down from 6.7 percent one year ago and up from 6.1 percent in June 2012. The non-adjusted unemployment rate was 6.7 percent, down from 7 percent in July 2011 and up from 6.2 percent one month ago.
