HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The latest unemployment numbers were released Friday morning and show the rate for Hutchinson at 5.0 percent for the month of October. That’s up from the number in Sept. when the rate was 4.6 percent. That’s also higher then October of 2015 when the rate was 4.4 percent.

The rate for Reno County also saw a slight increase with the rate at 4.5 percent in October, up from 4.3 percent in September and 4.1 percent in October of last year.

Some of the surrounding counties also saw an increase while a couple actually saw a slight decrease.

The state’s October seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.4 percent. This was unchanged from September and up from 4.0 percent in October 2015.

The preliminary seasonally adjusted job estimates from the Kansas Department of Labor and Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate Kansas non-farm jobs increased by 900 from September. Since last month, Kansas private sector jobs increased by 900. The largest private sector over the month job increase was in Manufacturing.

Over the year, Kansas lost 5,300 seasonally adjusted total non-farm jobs. Kansas lost 5,700 private sector jobs since October 2015.
