It started around 12:44 p-m Friday afternoon when Reno County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a home at 7503 E. 30th, on the report of trouble with a man there.
In-route, the officers were notified that the man identified as 27-year-old Christopher Gregory had left in a Red Toyota Flatbed truck. At approximately 1:10 p-m, Deputy Richard Jennings spotted the vehicle southbound at 56th and Willison. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the individual fled. Speeds reached about 80-mph on Willison Rd to 43rd when the suspect turned westbound, nearly going into the ditch.
Just west of Kent Road, Gregory allegedly stopped his vehicle, as the officer started to get out, he then backed up ramming that vehicle. The sheriff’s car was disabled and the suspect fled westbound. He then continued on 43rd, pursued by Deputy Travis Voth and Deputy Darron Morgan. At 43rd and Lorraine, Gregory allegedly turned around and at 43rd & Halstead, stopped abruptly again and tried to back into the pursuing unit. Deputy Voth was able to maneuver around the individual who sideswiped the passenger side of the patrol vehicle. He then struck the drivers rear side of a Hutchinson Police vehicle driven by Patrolman Chad Agnew just west of 43rd & Panorama. The suspect continued to old highway 61 and headed north. Deputies ask permission to utilize the, “Tactical Vehicle Intervention,” procedure on the vehicle and it was approved by Sheriff Randy Henderson.
Approaching 56th and old K-61, the maneuver was attempted on the suspect who drove into the ditch to avoid it. The suspect then turned around and headed south on the old K-61 until he ran out of pavement and got stuck in the mud in a large hole around the construction site on the northeast corner of 30th and the new K-61. Officers were able to subdue the suspect who resisted them.
EMS was called to the scene to check cuts and scrapes on Gregorys right arm and back. He was treated and released to Sheriff’s Deputies.
Gregory apparently lived at the home on East 30th. He was arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated battery of law enforcement officer, felony flee and elude, resisting arrest, felony criminal damage to property, illegal transportation of liquor and will be tested for DUI.
The disturbance had originated between Gregory and his mother, Camille McBride, at 7503 East 30th over a set of car keys. Gregory’s 13-year-old daughter, was also present during the disturbance where Gregory broke all the windows out a car with his fist and baseball bat before leaving the scene and starting the chase with the officers.
Gregory is jailed on a bond 150-thousand dollars and unless he post that bond, should make an appearance in court on Monday.
