HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A man sought by the Hutchinson Police Department has been captured in Butler County.

The Reno County Sheriff’s Office says John David Smalling Jr. is in custody in Butler County after a short standoff. No other details were made available.

Smalling is suspected of being involved in multiple auto burglaries, motor vehicle thefts and high-speed pursuits.

Smalling had a warrant for his arrest through the Reno County Sheriff’s Office for burglary and has been tied to crimes in Haven, Hutchinson, Inman, McPherson, Medora and Wichita.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — There have been a rash of auto thefts and burglaries in the area over the past several weeks. The Hutchinson Police Department now reports that it is currently seeking information on the whereabouts of John David Smalling Jr.

Smalling is suspected of being involved in multiple auto burglaries, motor vehicle thefts, and high-speed pursuits. Smalling has a warrant for his arrest through the Reno County Sheriff’s Office for burglary and has been tied to crimes in Haven, Hutchinson, Inman, McPherson, Medora and Wichita.

Smalling is believed to currently be armed and dangerous. Smalling is a 27-year-old white male, 6’3″ and approximately 186 pounds. Smalling has brown hair, brown eyes, and a large tattoo on the right side of his neck that reads “Madi.”
