USD 308 Board approves building improvement bids

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The USD 308 School Board approved bids for two improvement projects in district buildings.

The board approved a bid from Hieb & Associates, LLC for a new addition and remodeling for $576,000 at Avenue A School. The work will add a new hallway on the south side of the school and a restroom for the pre-kindergarten program. Other restrooms for Pre-K students will be remodeled. Internal doors will be added between classrooms. The building will also get hallway separation doors.

The only other bid for the project was from Compton Construction from Wichita for $577,900.

The board also approved a bid from Hieb & Associates for remodeling work at Morgan Elementary School. While the bid is for $150,000, the district will work with the contractor to reduce the project’s scope and total cost. The only other bid was for $151,600 from Compton Construction.

In a subsequent memo, a change order dropped the Morgan bid by $16,372.65.

The scope of work currently includes the renovation of the main office, a classroom adjacent to the main office to serve as the principal and assistant principals’ offices, and an in-school-suspension room. The current lounge will be renovated into a special education classroom.

Both projects will use the services of Landmark Architects. The motions included paying for engineering services from Landmark.
