NICKERSON, Kan. — The Nickerson USD 309 School Board got their first look at a proposed $34 million facilities improvement plan during their meeting Monday.

The proposal presented to the board was two bond issues, one dependent of passage of the other. The first proposal would total $24.5 million and would include controlled entries along with a new early childhood addition, a new multi-purpose room and two new classrooms in South Hutchinson.

At Reno Valley Middle School work would include wrestling and weight room additions. In Nickerson, the high school work would include remodeled science and culinary study areas and a new media center. The second part of the bond issue if approved would total $9.5 million and would provide a new fine arts centers for the high school.

Because of the states bond cap, the district will have to wait until the next fiscal year, which starts in July, to get the proposal on the ballot. If all goes as planned and the project gets approval from the state district, patrons will be able to vote on the bond issue in November.
