Virgil L. Wenzel, 89, died January 24, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born July 28, 1929, in Pretty Prairie, to Joseph F. and Francis Isabell (Riley) Wenzel.
Virgil graduated from Hutchinson High School. Following high school, Virgil joined the family business, Wenzel Construction in 1943, where he worked until his retirement. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior August 2, 1952. He served as a lay preacher at the former Evangelical Free Church, Hutchinson, and was a member of the former Westbrook Baptist Church.
On May 30, 1948, he married Lois Randles in Hutchinson. She died September 26, 2013.
Virgil is survived by: children, Cheryl Briggs (Will) of Hutchinson, Mike Wenzel (Carol) of Kermit, TX, Janey Vanderpool (Rick) of Hutchinson, DeAnna Hengle (Mike) of Missouri, RJ Wenzel of South Hutchinson, Ginny Brawner (Todd) of Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Eldon Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
