Water Level at Cheney Lake Continues to Fall

The water level at Cheney lake continues to fall. According to officials the lake is now down about 5-feet from normal. Lack of rain and continued draw down from the city of Wichita has left the lake without serviceable boat ramps. The low water has led to a new problem as well. Stuck vehicles.

According to the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, many motorists are using the lake bed for mud running while others are driving onto the lake bed to get closer to the water. Officials say they are fielding numerous reports of stuck vehicles.

KDWP&T officers warn that its not only going to cost you to get your vehicle pulled form the mud, its going to come with a hefty fine as well for not staying on posted roads with in the park area.
