A 44-year-old Wichita man has been found guilty on a federal firearms charge.

Troy Bong was tried in U.S District Court in Wichita and a jury found him guilty on one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.

During trial, the prosecutor presented evidence that Bong was arrested Dec. 22, 2012, when Wichita police stopped the car in which he was riding after it left a known drug house. The officer, who recognized Bong from a previous arrest, told him to step out of the car. When the officer tried to pat him down for weapons, Bong resisted and a fight developed. Officers found that Bong possessed knives and a handgun. Bong was prohibited from possessing a firearm because of prior felony convictions.

Those convictions include burglaries, thefts, two aggravated robberies, three robberies, aggravated escape from custody and aggravated failure to appear. All of the convictions occurring in Sedgwick and Shawnee counties in Kansas.

Sentencing in the federal case is set for Nov. 18. Bong faces a penalty of not less than 15-years under the Armed Career Criminal Act. He is still serving time in state prison as well.
