HUTCHINSON, Kan.— The recent rain and cool weather will help the wheat harvest in terms of quality, but any chance of big yields has long gone by the wayside.

That from Pratt County Extension Agent Mark Ploger. Ploger says if things dry out, cutting could begin in Reno County in the next week. He went on to say the recent change in the weather will help fill out the heads of wheat, but there’s a lot less to cut this year due to the drought.

More than half of the winter crop is listed in poor to very poor condition according to the latest report from the Kansas Ag Statistics Service.
