The National Weather Service says the odds of being struck by lightning in a person’s lifetime are one in 10,000. Over the last 30 years, the U.S. has averaged 55 reported lightning fatalities
per year. Weather Service officials say that only about 10-percent of people who are struck by lightning are killed.
