EMPORIA – The Kansas Historical Society announced it will close William Allen White House for the winter. The last day of tours will be Saturday, November 19. Until then, the site is open 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Thursday – Saturday. William Allen White House is located at 927 Exchange Street in Emporia. For more information call 620-342-2800.
The site is scheduled to reopen the first week of April 2012 and will operate on a seasonal schedule, closing for the winter at the end of September. The site remains available for special events throughout winter closings.
The Historical Society plans to offer new programs and tours at the site when it reopens. “We’re excited about new opportunities at William Allen White House,” said Kansas Historical Society Executive Director Jennie Chinn. “We’re moving forward with the William Allen White Community Partnership to offer a more enjoyable and experiential visit to tourists and the Emporia community.”
The William Allen White House is one of 16 state historic sites operated by the Kansas Historical Society, a state agency that also operates the Kansas Museum of History, State Archives, and Kansas State Capitol Tour Center.
