Woman found slain in Johnson County hotel room

MERRIAM (AP) – The death of a 37-year-old woman in a northeastern Kansas hotel room is being investigated as a homicide.

Authorities in Johnson County say the woman was found dead Friday morning by a cleaning crew at the Homestead Studio Suites, located in Merriam just off Interstate 35.

Merriam Police Chief Tim Burnett told KMBC-TV 9 in Kansas City, there were obvious signs of trauma. He declined to offer any more specifics.

The woman’s name has not been released. Police said she had stayed at the hotel previously, but there was no record of a recent stay.
