WICHITA, Kan. (AP) – A 25-year-old woman who is accused of leaving her 11-month-old son alone in a hot car while she shopped at a Wichita Walmart says she forgot he was with her.
The Wichita Eagle reports a passerby noticed the baby alone in a car that was sealed up around 8:35 p.m.
Monday and called 911. Temperatures were just below 100 degrees at the time.
Police spokesman Lt. Doug Nolte says paramedics who responded found no health issues. It’s not clear how long the baby had been in the car.
The mother returned to her car just as officers were preparing to rescue the boy. She was arrested on an outstanding warrant and the child was left with extended family.
The Exploited and Missing Child Unit is investigating the incident.
