HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Work has begun on a surfacing project on K-14/K-96 four miles southeast of Nickerson, east of the city limits. 

The nearly $800,000 project involves badly-rutted areas that workers will remove and replace with four inches of asphalt. In other areas, workers will perform a half-inch mill. Upon completion, workers will place a 1.5-inch overlay on the project area.

APAC-Kansas Inc., Shears Division of Hutchinson, is the prime contractor for the project.

Flaggers will direct traffic during road work. KDOT officials did not give a timeline for completion.

KDOT urges all motorists to be alert, obey warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through highway work zones.
