Zoo Atlanta giraffe transported to Kansas

ATLANTA (AP) – Zoo Atlanta’s 1-year-old female giraffe, Zuri, has been moved to Kansas.

Zoo officials say Zuri, who stands about 10 feet tall, left Atlanta on Tuesday and was taken to Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure in Salina.

They say Zuri was transported by a truck hauling a 16-foot-long trailer tall enough to ensure the giraffe would have a comfortable journey. They report that she arrived safely in Salina.

Zoo officials say the move was recommended under the Giraffe Species Survival Plan.

Zuri was born on July 13, 2010 to the zoo’s giraffe Glenda, and was the first giraffe born at Zoo Atlanta. Her half-sister, Lily, was born in July.
