Erma A. Fahrenholtz, 97, died Monday, June 4, 2018, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. She was born January 13, 1921, in rural Sterling, the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Bertha May (Miller) Easter.

Erma was a farm wife, mother and loved to play her guitar and sing.

On September 30, 1945, she married Herbert Henry Fahrenholtz in the Nazarene parsonage, rural Sylvia. He died December 2, 2012.
She is survived by: children, Dr. H. Daniel Fahrenholtz and wife Diana of Granby, Colorado, Victoria A. Wise and husband Dean of Clearwater; daughter”in-law, Janice Fahrenholtz of Tribune; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren, with two on the way.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Dr. Randall K. Fahrenholtz; and nine siblings.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Her casket will remain closed. Erma’s book will available to sign from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary .

David E. Wicks, 88, of Hutchinson, died June 2, 2018, at Good Samaritan Center. He was born May 21, 1930, in Larned, Kansas, the son of Kenneth and Phylista (Collier) Wicks. David was a 1949 graduate of Hutchinson High School and then served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Following his four years in the military, he worked a 42-year career as a salesman with the former Consolidated Manufacturing Company. David was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

David married Dorothy Jean Lees on June 3, 1951, in Hutchinson. She died January 21, 1983. He then married Joan Hargett on January 2, 1984, in Hutchinson. She survives.

He is survived by: wife, Joan; sons, Dan Wicks (Keith Barnes) and Darren Wicks (LuAnn), all of Hutchinson; stepchildren, Charles Hargett (Cindy Cooper), Booneville, MO, Richard Hargett (Melina Pina), Hutchinson, Carol McMillan (Jeremy), Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his first wife, Dorothy; his parents; two brothers; and one sister.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Willard D. Stafford officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Burial Park. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Beverley Ann Rayl, 77, died Friday, June 1, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born July 4, 1940, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to Joseph George and Sophie (Fedak) Faso.

Beverley graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1956. She attended Hutchinson Junior College, Kansas City Kansas Community College, and Eastern Arizona University. Beverley worked for various banks, colleges, hospitals, and insurance companies, before retiring as a secretary for Central Bank & Trust Co.

She was married to Lloyd Dean Helm. On July 11, 1980, she married Gary Dee Rayl in Phoenix, Arizona. They shared 35 years of marriage before his death on November 6, 2015.

Beverley is survived by: children, Deena Prichard (Mike) of Hutchinson, Joel Helm (Melody) of Leesburg, Georgia, Mark Helm (Lisa) of Petaluma, California, Susan Long of Hutchinson; sister, Shirley Scinocca of San Diego, California; four stepchildren, Brad Rayl (Jolie), Kaye Rayl Heitschmidt (Dick), Dennis Rayl (Shirley), all of Hutchinson, Robert Rayl (Lisa) of Republic, MO; nephew, Ron Scinocca (Teri ) of San Diego, California; niece, Sherri Irvin (Michael) of Escondido, California; grandchildren, Kelly Massey, Kasey Thiessen, Ethan Helm, Jesse Bowden, Hannah Mayes, Sarah Helm, Lindsay Helm, Eric Long, Cole Long, Kirsten Long; eight great-grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Michael Paul Helm; and brother-in-law, Ron Scinocca.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Countryside Baptist Church, 819 West 30th Avenue, Hutchinson, with Pastor Ron Kyker presiding. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Fannie Dulos, 87, enjoyed a beautiful and rich life with the love for God, family and friends being her joy and priority. Fannie died May 30, 2018, at Hospice House. She lived in Hutchinson most of her life and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1949 and Hutchinson Junior College in 1951.  She married Tommy George Dulos on June 17, 1951, in a traditional Greek Orthodox Christian ceremony. She and Tommy met after he moved to Hutch as a young boy when they lived behind each other on A and B streets.  They married after Tommy graduated from KU and Fannie graduated from Hutch JUCO and moved to Wichita for a few years before returning to Hutchinson.

Fannie was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Mary Leopulos, and her husband, Tom.   She is survived by her four children, Greg of Ottawa, Barbara of Derby, Ron of Riverside, CA, and Cathy of Dallas, TX, along with her three sisters Mandy Specht (Frank) of Iola,  Ellen Chlentzos of Wichita, Connie Kentroti of Denver, and many nieces and nephews.

Fannie loved being a wife, mother, and homemaker.  She was an endearing and loving advocate not only for her own kids and their friends, but also the others in her life from neighbors and the kids to whom she read in her later years at Allen Elementary.  She remembered each of them and saved the personal notes they sent.  She was a scout leader, Sunday school teacher, a debate judge, and cheered along at every sport, drill team performance, play and military celebration in which her kids participated.  Fan was an amazing cook and loved a spirited game of tennis or bridge.  She could solve a crossword puzzle, jumble and Cryptoquip before her morning coffee was finished.  Once her kids had grown, she enjoyed the people with whom she worked at Pegues, and then at USD 308.  Ultimately, she treasured her career with First National Travel Agency which allowed her to travel the world.

Fannie’s last months were spent at Wesley Towers.  She met her health challenges with the same sweet, positive, unstoppable spirit she always had.  She didn’t let infirmity stop her care and love for everyone she encountered.  The family is very grateful for the health professionals at Wesley Towers and Hospice House.  Fannie is loved and respected by so many for her strength, courage, kindness and gentle regard for absolutely everyone.  She loved well and was well loved in return.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Elliott Chapel with Father Ambrose R. Rhoda ‘Marie’ Davis, 92, of Hutchinson, died May 29, 2018, at Hester Care Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson. She was born March 31, 1926, in Garnett, to Archie and Cora (Edwards) Tomberlin.

In addition to being a homemaker, Marie worked at a number of jobs over the years, including: being a ‘Rosie the Riveter’ at Beechcraft during WW II; Dillons Delicatessen at B & Main in Hutchinson; delivering the Hutchinson News for over 30 years; and in food service and hostess at Wesley Towers for over 30 years. She loved working jigsaw puzzles and playing Bingo. Marie loved people, especially her family. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

On November 9, 1945, she married L.B. ‘Bill’ Davis in Hutchinson. He died June 7, 2002. Marie is survived by: sons, Tony Davis (Cheryl) and Byron Davis (Debbie), all of Hutchinson; daughter, Connie Jones of Haysville; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Patti Startzman; sisters, Mary and Ruth; brothers, Don, Archie, Jim, and Maury.

Amber Archer, 40, passed away May 28, 2018. She was born December 1, 1977, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Brian and Judy (Volavka) Archer.

She was a 1996 graduate of Buhler High School, where she participated in band, Buhler singers, jazz band, cross country, track and field, and basketball. Amber graduated with a Bachelors and Master’s Degree in English from Kansas State University.

Amber loved her job as Instructional Support Specialist at Flight Safety International since 2014. Her favorite pastimes included: raising plants, working in the garden, fishing with her dad, camping, scrapbooking and making jewelry for friends.

She is survived by: her parents of Hutchinson; brother, Chad and wife, Julie; nieces, Brittany and Olivia; cousins, Trae, Shona, Dominique and their families; uncle, Craig Archer and wife Sharon; aunts, Mona Archer and Nancy Volavka; and dear friend, Archie.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Alan Gager presiding. Friends may sign her book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Faithful servant, Connie L. Haden, 79, joined her Lord and Savior Monday, May 28, 2018, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler.  She was born June 27, 1938, in El Dorado, to Jonathan W. and Helen Lucille (Winters) Sommers.

Connie graduated from Towanda High School in 1956.  Serving others and her faith were paramount in Connie’s life.  She enjoyed working as an Avon Representative for over 38 years and playing the piano for 24 years at Newton Presbyterian Manor. She was a member of Newton Christian Church, where she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, served as a pianist, and helped with funeral dinners.  Connie and her husband, Samuel, were two of the founders of the church.

On June 9, 1957, she married Samuel Lee Haden in Towanda.  He died January 28, 1994. Connie is survived by:  children, Jeff Haden of Newton, Melanie Whitmore (Roger) of Hutchinson, James Haden (Kari) of Andover; grandchildren, Taryn Whitmore, Breanna Haden, Chelsea Haden, Bailey Haden; brother, Bob Sommers of Towanda; and sister, Joan Green (Merrill) of El Dorado. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Jean Sommers.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, with Pastor Bart Horton officiating. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Newton Christian Church, 210 Southport Drive, Newton, with Pastor Doug Ingmire officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
