MINNEAPOLIS, Kan. — The Trinity Catholic volleyball team split a pair of matches Thursday night in Minneapolis. The Celtics defeated Minneapolis 2-0 to kick off the evening.
In the late match, the Celtics fell to the Swathers 2-1.
Trinity is back in action again Tuesday when the team travels to Wichita to take on Wichita Independent and Ellinwood.
Matches get underway at 6 p.m.
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It’s a host of new talent and a number of strong returning runners that make up
this year’s HutchCC cross country team. The Dragons get a chance to show their stuff before the home crowd when the season kicks off for the third year under the lights at Fun Valley with the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Sophomore forward Megan Maslak’s career-high outing against Northeast 
Nebraska on Aug. 22 earned the Hutchinson Community College sophomore forward Jayhawk Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors.
A sophomore from Deal, England, Maslak had career highs of four goals and nine points to lead the Blue Dragons to a season-opening 6-0 win over Northeast Nebraska. Maslak had four goals and one assist against the Hawks.
She scored her four goals on just six shots. This was Maslak’s first career hat trick and she became the 35th player in team history with a four-goal game.
Maslak had a fifth goal and another assist wiped out on Saturday when Hutchinson’s game at Trinidad state was suspended and then canceled after severe weather stopped the game in the second half, 11 minutes short of a complete game.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two members of the Hutchinson Community College football team were recognized by the Jayhawk Conference as Players of the Week for their performances last Thursday in a 30-12 victory over Ellsworth at Gowans Stadium.
Erin Collins, a running back from Plant City, Florida, was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week. Dezmon Jackson, a sophomore from El Dorado, Arkansas, was named the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week.
Highland linebacker Darius Johnson was named the Jayhawk’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Collins, a transfer from North Carolina State, made a big Blue Dragon debut scoring three touchdowns in the Blue Dragons’ season opener.
Collins rushed for a game-high 104 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns. Collins had a huge second have with 85 yards coming in the final two quarters. Collins had touchdown runs of 1, 9 and 46 yards.
He also had three receptions for 23 yards.
DEZMON JACKSON
Jackson had a game-high 179 all-purpose yards with 117 coming on three kickoff returns in Hutchinson’s 30-12 season-opening victory over Ellsworth. Jackson had a long return of 73 yards.
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council will address the city’s Rental Inspection Program
during Tuesday’s agenda session.
The action by the council comes nearly two weeks after the City Housing Commission, who originally gave all indication it wanted to do away with the program, voted to recommend keeping the program.
There has been mixed support for the program, which was met with much criticism from landlords. The program lost much of its ability to keep track of rental property and its condition when the state passed a statute that limited the city’s ability to enforce the program.
Some feel that the program has done little to improve the housing situation in the city. That is compounded by the large number of houses that are considered rentals. At last check, more than one-third of the houses in the city were considered rental property.
FORT MADISON, Iowa — A month after celebrating completion of its first new turbine as a merged 
company, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy celebrated the completion of the first blades for the SG 3.4-132 wind turbine in the U.S. at its blade manufacturing facility in Fort Madison, Iowa, on Tuesday. The nacelle and hub for this turbine were assembled last month in Hutchinson.
To enable the manufacturing of this new product, Fort Madison employees traveled to the company’s facilities in Spain for training on the new blade design of the SG 3.4-132 turbine.
Earlier this year, employees from Hutchinson traveled to the company’s nacelle assembly facility in Ágreda, Spain, where they learned the build process, tooling requirements and quality documentation needed to produce the SG 3.4-132.
As previously announced, the company’s two facilities were retooled to accommodate the updated product portfolio. These capital investments enabled the locations to expand their capabilities to meet varying market demands. Since opening, Fort Madison has produced nearly 16,500 blades. Hutchinson has assembled nearly 4,000 nacelles and hubs for various projects across North and South America.
The SG 3.4-132 wind turbine features an output of 3.465 megawatts and a rotor diameter of 132 meters, making it one of the most efficient and cost-effective solutions for medium wind sites.
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Inman native Eden Heibert had 14 kills as the HutchCC volleyball team rebounded from a tough weekend in New Mexico to score a 3-0 sweep of Barton at the Sports Arena Wednesday night.
After an error-plagued start to the season, head coach Patrick Hall was pleased with the team’s improvement:
The Dragons, who are 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, are at Pratt Monday.
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fox Theatre is bringing back one of its favorite fundraisers.
The Fox will host its Speakeasy event Saturday, Sept. 22, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the theatre.
This year’s event features FOX signature cocktails, a 1920s–1930s era “best dressed” costume contest, raffle items, and a come-and-go presentation of silent short films with live accompaniment.
The Speakeasy is a fundraiser. All proceeds go to Hutchinson’s Historic Fox Theatre.
Admission is $100 per person.

CHENEY, Kan. — Cheney Reservoir and the state park are nearly filled to capacity for this weekend’s last big bash of the summer.
According to the park, the utility campsites have long sold out and the west shore primitive camping is about 95 percent filled. East shore camping is about 75 percent full.
Park officials say the lake level is good and free of debris, although it is forecast to be a bit stormy and windy at times.
The lake will also have its annual Labor Day fireworks show put on by the Ninnescah Sailing Association. The event will be held at the Filburn Cove at dusk.
The Ninnescah Sailing Association is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to promoting sailing and water safety at the lake and around the area. The group has held the fireworks display since 1995.
SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The South Hutchinson Elementary School is working to start a Watch
D.O.G.S. program. D.O.G.S. stands for “Dads of Great Students.” A meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, but has been postponed until mid-October.
This program invites Dads (or any father figure) to come be a part of the school for one day per year. Participants will have an official Watch D.O.G.S. T-shirt and get to be a part of several classrooms, eat lunch with their child, and help with other supervision around the building.
The district says it is looking forward to starting and growing this program.
