HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council will hold its public hearing of the budget on Tuesday evening. The budget for this year, including Hutch Rec, totals $88,063,217 on taxes levied of $14,820,285. The mill levy will go from 47.7 to 47.8 mills.

The Council will take action on more revisions to the city housing codes as well. The council will address several of the codes for use permits and revising codes to encompass the new city infill program. The city hopes the revisions will simplify codes and allow for development.

Also Tuesday, the Council will seek approval of bids of eight T-hangars for the Hutchinson Airport from Erect-A-Tube company at a cost of $155,945.

And finally, the Council will take action on a request of a conditional use permit for a salvage yard located at 316 Spencer.

Tuesday’s meeting of the Hutchinson City Council begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson city offices.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A very special event kicks off Sunday in Hutchinson with the annual American Legion Legacy Motorcycle Ride. Mak McGaughey talks about the ride and their destination:

The Legacy Run will leave Hutchinson on Sunday and arrive in Minneapolis for the National Convention Aug. 23, in Minnesota.

At various stops along the way, Legion Riders will take part in wreath-laying ceremonies at various memorials and cemeteries, as well as make lunch and dinner stops at Legion posts whose charters all date between 1919-1921.

The 2017 Legacy Run raised a record $1,224,653 – the fourth straight year that the Ride raised more than $1 million.

With a portable sonogram and X-ray machines, the ability to move around a patient has been made easier with larger rooms. All of the room’s monitors and treatment operations now hang from the ceiling on boom arms rather that coming out of the walls, giving 306 degree access to patients.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce Agri-Business Committee is seeking nominations for the 2018 Farm Focus Family Award and the 2018 Agri-Business of the Year Award.

The award coincides with National Farm City Week as the Chamber celebrates agri-business and the impact it has on Reno County during the Chamber Membership Breakfast. This year’s Farm Focus Family breakfast will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018.

The breakfast also takes time to recognize all Reno County Farmers who can attend the breakfast at no charge. This award began in 1985 and since then, 98 families in Reno County have been recognized.

The Chamber’s Agri-Business Committee will also be awarding a Reno County Agri-Business of the Year award at the membership breakfast as well. This award is intended to honor Chamber member agri-businesses in Reno County. This is defined as the businesses collectively associated with the production and distribution of agricultural products.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A great chance to find a new pet for your home is coming up this weekend. The Hutchinson Animal Shelter will be participating in what is called Clear the Shelters. The event is part of a nationwide effort to find homes for dogs and cats.

On Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., the shelter will be waiving all adoption fees for available dogs and cats. The Petco Foundation is covering the fees as part of a grant awarded earlier this year.

There will also be refreshments and various items given out.

All adoptions come with the animal spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and a free veterinary exam to a local veterinary clinic.

More than 900 animal shelters nationwide participate in the annual event.
