Alice Marie Wasinger | 1928 – 2018 |

Alice Marie Wasinger, 90, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born July 26, 1928, in Victoria, Kansas, to John and Catherine (Schmidtberger) Rupp.

Alice worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator and was a homemaker. She was an avid golfer, gardener, and wonderful German cook. Alice was a member of Church of the Holy Cross Altar Society and Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Alice enjoyed serenading her family on every holiday and birthday with her harmonica, and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and making every grandchild feel extra special.

On August 28, 1951, she married Alfred ‘Al’ Wasinger. They shared 59 years of marriage before his death on December 12, 2010.

Alice is survived by: children, Cathey Donohue (Patrick) of Blue Springs, MO, Andy Wasinger (Karen) of Hutchinson, Al Wasinger (Terri) of Owasso, Oklahoma, Linda Childs (Marc), Tom Wasinger (Samantha), all of Wichita; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; first infant granddaughter, Tara Donohue; and 12 brothers and sisters.

Parish Rosary will be 7 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2018, at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Road, Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Church of the Holy Cross, with Father Aaron Spexarth and Father Michael Kerschen officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to Church of the Holy Cross, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

The family wishes to thank Alice’s caregivers: Jane, Maribeth, Nikki, Raeleen, and Renee, for their loving care given to their mom, which allowed Alice to remain in her home.

Melva P. Bornholdt | 1926 – 2018 |

Melva P. Bornholdt, of Hutchinson, died September 14, 2018.

She was born June 26, 1926, in LeRoy, KS, the daughter of Charles and Hazel (Chitwood) Rampenthal. Melva married William ‘Bill’ Bornholdt on January 23, 1945, in Newton. He died November 18, 2009.

Melva is survived by her sister, Joan Bontrager of South Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Bill; her children, Eric Boyd Bornholdt, Dr. Bret Alan Bornholdt, DVM, and Adele Bornholdt; her parents; one brother; and two sisters.

Private services have been held. Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, is in charge of arrangements.

Jamie D. Barrett | 1964 – 2018 |

Jamie Dean Barrett, 54, of South Hutchinson, died September 13, 2018, at his home. He was born May 28, 1964, in Ellsworth, Maine, the son of Clinton H. Jr. and Shirley Marie (Sargent) Barrett.

Jamie graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1982. He was a heavy equipment operator for the City of Hutchinson for 18 years. Jamie was a member of CrossPoint Church, Hutchinson, and SEIU Local 513. He loved deer hunting, fishing, and photography.

In 1988, Jamie married Tammy Stratton. They later divorced. On August 6, 2010, he married Diana K. Foust in Hutchinson. She survives.

Also surviving are: daughter, Tegan Barrett, Los Angeles, CA; stepdaughters, Jennifer Stoll and Amy Byers (Jason), Hutchinson; stepson, Matthew Stoll (Tresnie), Hutchinson; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Lillyann, Brayden, Jaxson, Aubrey, Messiah, and Laila; brother, David Barrett (Nancy), Brewer, Maine; sister, Judy Alley (Phil), Mechanic Falls, Maine; father-in-law, Larry Foust, Hutchinson; and many nieces and nephews.

Jamie was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas Richard Barrett.

Celebration of Life will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at The Father’s House, 1505 E. 20th Ave., Hutchinson, with Bishop Quintin Moore officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Men’s and Women’s Encounter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Robert L. Cole | 1936 – 2018 |

U.S. Veteran

Robert L. ‘Bob’ Cole, 82, formerly of Arlington, KS, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018, in McKinney, TX. He was born April 30, 1936, to Theodore and Viola (Keller) Cole.

Bob graduated from Arlington High School and Kansas State University.  After college, he proudly served in the Kansas Air National Guard. On November 4, 1960, he married Geraldine ‘Gerry’ Fritz in Grantville, Kansas.

He moved back to the Arlington area in the early 1960’s to operate and manage the family farm.  Bob was a member and also held various leadership positions in multiple farming organizations, KSU alumni clubs and the Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church.

He will be deeply missed by many, as he touched and positively impacted many lives in Kansas, Texas and other places near and far.

Bob is survived by:  his wife, Gerry; sons, Steve Cole and wife Sharon of Murphy, Texas, David Cole of Olathe; grandchildren, Jake Cole, Jamie Cole, Grayson Cole, Corrine Cole; and sister, Esther Klaassen of Wichita.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Viola and sister, Edith Nielson.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018, at Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church, 201 S. Rhodes, Pretty Prairie, with the Reverend Christopher Eshelman and Pastor Luke Helmuth officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lerado Cemetery, and then a lunch reception will be hosted back at the church for all attending.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pretty Prairie High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) or  UT Southwestern Medical Center, (to support Alzheimer research in honor of his wife), in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.
