Rita M. (White) Roets, 69, died on September 10, 2018 at Via Christi hospital in Wichita after a long battle with COPD.

Rita’s grandsons were her world, and the love they shared for each other was inspiring. Before she became ill, she loved to take them on frequent road trips in Kansas to explore new towns and communities. Rita also loved to play card games, board games and work in her yard.

Until a few years ago, her plants and flowers were always beautiful. When her grandsons became adults, she would have lengthy conversations several times a week to discuss politics or music, but mostly she wanted to hear about their activities and adventures. Recently, she was so proud to be able to attend her youngest grandson’s college graduation and reception. Rita loved music. In her youth she played the piano, the clarinet and had a beautiful singing voice.

Education was very important to Rita. Not only did she work for many years as a secretary for Kansas State University, she obtained a degree in Political Science from Wichita State University. She fought for women’s rights, both as a member of NOW and financially to many civil rights organizations and causes. Rita always took joy in the simple things, she was a beautiful woman and her appearance was important to her. She will be remembered as being polite, compassionate and loving to everyone, but mostly to those she loved.

She is survived by a daughter Debbie (Roets) Haag and her husband Joel Haag and two grandsons, Matthew and Jacob Leverich, all of Hutchinson, and a brother, Ronald White of Manhattan. She is preceded in death by parents, Max and Ruby White, formerly of Zeandale, Kansas.

Sarah Iolene Turner, 79, of Hutchinson, died peacefully in her sleep on September 11, 2018. She was born June 6, 1939, in Dodge City, the daughter of Roy E. Rankin and Goldie (Smith) Rankin. Iolene spent her childhood years in the Larned/Great Bend area, graduating from Larned High School in 1957 and Wilcox Beauty Academy in 1958.

On October 18, 1959, she married Melvin Turner at Larned. They lived briefly in Larned before moving to Great Bend, where she owned and managed Iolene’s Beauty Shop. In 1970, the family moved to Hutchinson where Iolene began a career with Kwik Shop and Dillon Stores accounting office, eventually retiring in 2003, after 17 years of service.

Iolene was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church where she was involved in Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA) and the Christian Friends Fellowship. Together, Iolene and Melvin started the Buhler High School Crusader Booster Club. Iolene’s activities reflected her bedrock foundation comprised of spiritual faith, family, and eternal optimism.

Iolene is survived by: her husband of almost 59 years, Melvin of Hutchinson; two sons, Mike (Roel Rodriguez) of Austin, TX, Jeff of Hutchinson; two daughters, Stacie Duncan (Wayne) of Hutchinson, Tona Schekall (Michael) of Wichita; nephew/son, Tim Lane of Larned; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joyce Rankin of Larned; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; three brothers, Roy Jr. (Maxine), Leland, and Leon; and two sisters, Marie Hammer (Howard) and Elaine Fulton.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 140 E. 30th Avenue, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Carey officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Sarah Elizabeth Vigil, 57, of Hutchinson, died Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  She was born October 2, 1960, in Denver, Colorado, to Eutimo and Rosella Mercedes (Marquez) Vigil.

Sarah attended Hutchinson High School and was a wonderful  caregiver.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, drawing, and watching sporting events, especially the Denver Broncos.  Sarah adored her children, grandchildren, and dog, Wu.

Sarah is survived by:  children, Haley Call (Edward Kinder), Brandi Vollnogel (Andrew), Julian Call, Jessie Call; close friend, who was like a son, Thomas Galindo; companion, Mark Chambers; brothers, Daniel Vigil, Frank Vigil, all of Hutchinson; sister, Rose Forkell (Allen), of Woodland Park, CO; grandchildren, Rhiannon Call, Meadow Vollnogel, Eutimio Call, Timothy Call, Noah Kinder, Eli Kinder; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; grandson, Andrew Vollnogel Jr.; and brothers, Timothy Vigil and Joseph Vigil.

Cremation has taken place.  Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2018, at Journey Mennonite Church, 808 S. Poplar St., South Hutchinson.  Memorials may be made to the Sarah Vigil Memorial Fund or Victory in the Valley, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.

Arleen Lentz, 93, of Hutchinson, died September 9, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society- Hutchinson Village. She was born July 6, 1925, in Mitchell, Kansas, to William Earl and Edith Belle (Miller) Martinie.

Arleen graduated from Lyons High School in 1943. She worked as a bank teller for a number of financial institutions located in Hutchinson, Alden, Hoisington, and Great Bend. Arleen retired, after 25 years of service, as a vault teller for Bank of America in California. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Hutchinson.

On August 5, 1946, she married Ralph Eugene ‘Gene’ Lentz in Hutchinson. Arleen is survived by: her loving husband of 72 years, Gene of Hutchinson; son, Rick Lentz and wife Margie of Westminster, Colorado; granddaughter, Meghan Lentz of Centennial, Colorado; grandsons, Erin Lentz of Phoenix, Arizona, Wesley Lentz of Westminster, Colorado; sister, Mary Lou Palmer of Independence; and twin sister, Roseleen Deam of Sacramento, California.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Gordon Rhodes officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and until service time Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
