Genevieve Joan ‘Genny’ Montgomery, 86, died Monday, September 24, 2018. She was born March 11, 1932, in Dighton, the daughter of John Wesley and Gladys Emaline (Conner) Shull.

She was a 1950 graduate of Dighton High School and Sid’s Cosmetology in 1983. Genny had been a beautician for J C Penney’s, a machine operator for Consolidated Mfg., and a meter reader for KP&L.

Genny was an avid golfer, mainly at Carey Park.

On August 30, 1962, she married Charles Newton Montgomery in Dighton. He survives. Also surviving are: children, Diana Loveall and husband Mickey of Salina, Doug Wallace of Topeka, Darlene Friesen of Hutchinson, Denise Frye and husband Randy of Lawrence, Darcy Boor and husband Mark of Salina; sister, Rosalie Wallace of Dighton; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Harry, Jack, Don, Marvin ‘Joe’, Jim, Carroll ‘Homer’ Shull; and sister, Virginia Shull.

Visitation with family present will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2018, at Elliott Chapel. Private inurnment will be in Fairlawn Burial Park. Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Norma Lea Smith, 82, of Hutchinson, died September 23, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born September 23, 1936, in Syracuse, KS, the daughter of Edgar W. and Kate L. (Hardin) Carrithers.

Norma graduated from Manter High School in 1951. She worked as a nurse aide/CNA at Hutchinson Hospital for many years. Norma was a member of South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Silver Leaf Chapter #464, Women of the Moose 1371, and V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post 1361. She loved playing all kinds of card games, but poker was her favorite.

On June 5, 1971, Norma married Clair F. Smith in Lamar, CO. He died February 4, 2005. She is survived by: sons, Dana Porter and wife Sharon, Johnson City, Tony Porter and wife Norma, Peyton, CO; grandchildren, Chad Porter and wife Jennifer, Mandy Jones and husband Mark, Kallie Powers and husband Andrew, Kaitlin Rollins and husband Blake; great-grandchildren, Riley, Zayn, Paxton, Rowan, and Lincoln; twin sister, Phyllis Kistler and husband Bud, Johnson City, sisters, Betty Broyles, Carthage, MO, Darlene New and husband Gale, Brooksville, FL; many nieces and nephews.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bob Carrithers.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018, at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, 206 E Ave. E, South Hutchinson, with the Reverend Claire Gadberry officiating. Inurnment will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2018, in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Donna Sue Ladewig, 63, of Hutchinson, died Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Hospice House. She was born November 11, 1954, in Emporia, the daughter of Dean and Martha (Pickering) Kuykendall. Donna graduated from high school in Osage City and Emporia State University. She worked as a receptionist at Via Christi Hutchinson Rehab and then as a billing/coding specialist for Hutchinson Clinic.

On May 21, 1978, Donna married Robert C. Ladewig Jr. in Osage City. He survives.

Also surviving are: sons, Lee and wife LaToya, Jay and wife Katie, both of Hutchinson; granddaughters, Teagan Ladewig and Rachel Stacy; sisters, Nina Flax and husband David, Osage City, Sarah Meadows and husband Frank, Topeka, Sally Wilk and husband Ken, Osage City; brothers, Jeff Kuykendall and husband David Morrissey, Monmouth, OR, Ken Kuykendall and wife Lori, Osage City; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at Elliott Chapel. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and Monday, and 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Ethel Leah Newell, 87, of Hutchinson, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018. She was born May 8, 1931, in Matheson, CO, the daughter of Ira Newton and Nellie Ethel (Drinen) Diggs.

She was a farm wife helping her husband in the farm operations in McAllaster, Weskan and Arlington. Ethel was a housekeeper for Friendship Manor for seven years. She was also a member of Mt. Olivet Worship Center.

On April 5, 1959, she married Clifford Newell Sr. in Winona. He died March 8, 2007. Survivors include: children, Clifford Jr. of Hutchinson, Don and wife Kim of Goodland, and Patricia Smith and husband Jim of Signaw, TX; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Edwin Diggs; sisters, Mary Jane Ramero, Ila Peery and husband Max; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Newell.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Kenn and Luanne Haddaway presiding. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Winona Cemetery, Winona, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

The Reverend Georgia Ann Strong Decker, 82, of Hutchinson, died Friday, September 21, 2018, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born March 21, 1936, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Clement M. and Hazel M. (Hardy) Strong.

Georgia graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1954, Hutchinson Junior College in 1956, Emporia State Teacher’s College in 1959, and received her master’s degree from Wichita State University in 1970. She served as a teacher, Title One director, and administrator for over 40 years in the Hutchinson and Partridge school districts. Georgia was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, where she served as Deacon and Archdeacon, and was a member of the Daughters of the King.

She is survived by: daughters, Mari Young of Bradenton, FL, Kathy Baker and husband Rusty of Haysville, Susan Parrish and husband Jim of Granite Falls, NC; grandchildren, Ryan Magby and wife Roula, Heather Magby, Chris Young, Kayla Parrish, Drew Parrish, Brett Parrish, Abigail Parrish; great-grandchildren, Karina Cook and Brantley Young; nephew, Jerry East and wife CeCe and their family.

Georgia was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Kristina Jordan; and sister, Juanita Jean Strong Adams.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2018, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Dr., Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. J. Ted Blakley officiating. Richard Alan Krol, 67, of Hutchinson, formerly of Nickerson, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018, in Hutchinson. Rich was born May 25, 1951, to Walter and Lillian (Augustyn) Krol in East Chicago, IN.

Rich graduated from Bishop Noll Institute, Hammond, IN, and came to Kansas to play football at Butler CC in 1970. He graduated from Panhandle State University in 1976, and later received a MS degree in Education from Friends University.

On June 24, 1973, he married Diana Hershberger in Sedgwick, KS.

Rich began his teaching career in 1976, at Nickerson High School in Nickerson, KS. He taught metal shop and psychology at NHS until he retired in 2014. In addition to his classroom teaching, Rich coached football, girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball and baseball. He loved his work.

Rich also loved his family, and is survived by: sister, Janice Gajdos, Whiteing, IN; wife, Diana; children, Adam and Marcee Krol, Emily and Kevin Hauschild, Mace and Mandy Krol, all of Hutchinson, Noah and Cori Krol, Mt. Hope; nine grandchildren, Teegan, Kanon, Gatlin and Tinlee Krol, Easton and Kutter Hauschild, and Harper, Cam and Ty Krol.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Madeline Gustine.

Memorial services for Rich will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at the Nickerson High School Gym. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with family present from 4 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.

Connie Jean Penley Barlow, 66, died Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  She was born April 5, 1952, in Hutchinson, the daughter of J.C. and Juanita Marie (Gummere) Penley. Connie graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1970.  She worked for  over 25 years in child support enforcement for the Kansas Department of Children and Families.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; special grandmother, Agnes Gummere; and granddaughter, Haley Barlow.

Connie is survived by: sons, Chance Barlow and Dustin Barlow of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Laynee, Emily, Mara, and Mason Barlow; sisters, Nancy Eidson and husband Virgil of Nickerson, Jackie Beaver and husband Wayne, Susan Edwards, all of Hutchinson; brother, Jerry Penley and wife Terry of Sun City West, AZ; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018, at The Corner Stone Baptist Church, 1028 E. 16^th Ave., Hutchinson, with Wayne Beaver officiating.
