Robert ‘Red’ Hoffman | 2019 |

Robert ‘Red’ Hoffman, 88, of Hutchinson, died November 16, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born September 22, 1931, in Harvard, Nebraska, to Floyd and Velma (Lomax) Hoffman.

Red graduated from Aurora High School, Aurora, Nebraska in 1949. He joined the United States Army after high school and served in the Korean Conflict. After discharge, Red moved to Kansas and began work as a truck driver for Western Foods.  He loved trains, trucking, and giving the staff at Legend of Hutchinson a hard time.  The family wishes to give special recognition to Heather, Sadie, Amber, and Roxie, who spent extra time with him. Red was a member of V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361 and the Kansas Wheat State Chapter Trucking Association.

In 1997, Red married Betty Charter in Oklahoma. They shared 12 years together, before her death in 2009.

Red is survived by: stepdaughters, Susan Flores (Greg), Janis Charter, and Debbie Foss (Lyle), all of Hutchinson; and niece, Jacy Henk, of Aurora, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Betty Charter; brother, Ronald Hoffman; and sister, Jan Henk.

Cremation has taken place.

Graveside memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2019, at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Blvd, Hutchinson, with Pastor Gary Getting officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, at Elliott Mortuary, with the family present Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m., at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice House, Hutchinson, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Michael E. Higgins | 2019 |

Michael Eugene Higgins, 66, of South Hutchinson, died peacefully at home on November 14, 2019, surrounded by family. He was born June 26, 1953, to Lloyd ‘Curley’ and Phyllis (Bell) Higgins.

Michael retired from Stanion Wholesale Electric as an outside salesman. He was a passionate fan of the KU Jayhawks and  Kansas City Chiefs, he enjoyed fishing, and  loved calling on his customers.

On December 30, 1977, Michael married Marcia L. Herbinger, in Wichita. They shared 41 years together.

He is survived by :  wife, Marcy Higgins; son, Joshua Higgins (Shalean), both of South Hutchinson; son, Justin Higgins (Ashley), Wichita; stepson, Adrian Robinson (Brenda), Kearney, Nebraska; brother, Gary Higgins (Robyn), El Dorado; Robert Higgins, Muskogee, Oklahoma; stepsister, Marcie Cottrell (Chris), McPherson; and stepsister, Sherrie, Illinois.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Butch and Pat Higgins.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2019, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating.

Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Michael Higgins Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Shanna Mae Soukup | 1940 – 2019 |

Shanna Mae Soukup, 79, of Hutchinson, died November 14, 2019, at Reflection Living, Hutchinson.  She was born March 2, 1940, in Oxford, NE, to Lewis and Delpha (Pittman) Blees.

Shanna was a 1957 graduate of Decatur Community High School, Oberlin, KS.  She attended the College of Emporia for three years, where she met her husband, Herbert Soukup.  They were married January 24, 1959, in Lyle, KS.  After beginning their lives in Hudson, KS, Herbert and Shanna settled in Hutchinson in 1966.   They were united in marriage for over 60 years.

Of Shanna’s many roles, her most important and cherished was that of a stay at home mother for 10 years.  She served 16 years as a secretary at Hutchinson High School and nine years as an administrative assistant and college treasurer at Hutchinson Community College.  Shanna was a member of Altrusa International of Hutchinson, Kansas Association of Education Office Professionals, Trinity United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s organization, and a volunteer for the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.

Shanna is survived by: husband, Herbert Soukup of Hutchinson; daughters, Pam Kirk of Lawrence, and Jonelle Barrett of McKinney, TX; son, Monte (Molly) Soukup of Lawrence; and grandchildren, Benjamin and Paige Soukup, and Rachel Barrett.

Cremation has taken place.  Memorial service is pending and will be announced at a later date.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Altrusa International of Hutchinson or Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Genevieve “Gene” Cramer | 1915 – 2019 |

Genevieve ‘Gene’ Cramer, 104, of South Hutchinson, died November 12, 2019, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. She was born January 29, 1915, in Crawford County, to G.F. and Mary Ann (Brown) Phillippar.

Genevieve graduated from Weir High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree from Pittsburg State University, and a master’s degree from Emporia State University. She continued her graduate work at Colorado State University, Pittsburg State University, and Wichita State University.

Genevieve was a teacher at Weir High School for five years, Longton High School for three years, Hamilton High School for five years, and a speech and drama teacher at Hutchinson High School for twenty-four years. She was a member of the Hutchinson Area Retired School Personnel Association (HARPSA), Kansas Retired School Personnel Association (KRSPA), National Education Association (NEA), and a charter member of Alpha Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary International Teachers Sorority. Genevieve volunteered at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center (formerly Hutchinson Hospital) gift shop for ten years and was a member of the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary.

In November of 1944, she married Jess L. Cramer, in Columbus. He died in March of 1945, serving in World War II, in the Pacific.

Genevieve is survived by friends, Colleen Ward and Carol Schmucker. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jess L. Cramer.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Hosey Hill Cemetery, Weir, with Father Jeremy Huser officiating. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Weir Public Library, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
