Gary Slaven, 65, passed away June 28, 2019, at Hospice House. Gary was born September 7, 1953, in Newton, KS, the son of Fred and Vada Slaven.

Gary enlisted in the United States Army in 1976 and was honorably discharged. In 1985 he enlisted in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1993.

Gary worked in the maintenance department for the City of Hutchinson.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Goluba and step-daughter, Roberta Rogers.

He is survived by his wife Lenora; step-children, Tammie Faulkner, Nonie Green and DeAnna Fisher; brothers, Dwight Slaven, Billy Slaven, and David Slaven; sisters, Alice Jantz and Sharon Davis; nieces, Misty Faulkner, Amber Slaven, Viola Jantz, Lisa Jantz and Amanda Walker; nephews, Justin Fitzgerald, Fred Jantz, Jeremy Jantz, Travis Slaven, Phillip Davis and Matthew Davis.

Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., July 6, 2109 at Salt City Cowboy Church, 810 N. Main, South Hutchinson, KS.

Roger G. Fuller Jr., 54, of El Dorado, passed away June 26, 2019, in El Dorado, KS.

Roger was born January 1, 1965, the son of Roger and Glennia (Graham) Fuller Sr.

Service arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date by Hutchinson Funeral Chapel.

Gayle Diane Shuman died June 27, 2019 in her home. She was born May 6, 1945 to Vivian and Gayle Shuman in Reno County, Kansas.

Diane graduated from Buhler High School in 1964. She had various jobs in Kingman and Hutchinson. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, cooking and reading. Diane was dedicated to her family and helped care for her ailing mother prior to her mother’s death. She was known for being able to clearly recall stories from her youth and childhood with great detail, and often loved sharing stories about her family.

Her parents preceded her in death.

She is survived by two brothers, Fred (Mary) Shuman (Colorado Springs CO), Philip (Jerrilee) Shuman (Colby) and three nieces who cared for her very much.

Anna Mae Berend, 77, died peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones June 29, 2019, in Grants, New Mexico. She was born May 1, 1942, in Montezuma, KS, the daughter of Gerhard and Mary (Voth) Giesbrecht.

Anna married Vincent J. Berend on August 17, 1963, in Dodge City, KS. She was a retired registered nurse, a graduate of Hutchinson Community College School of Nursing and attended Eastwood and Grants churches of Christ.

She is survived by: loyal husband of 56 years, Vincent, of the home; son, Shawn, of Phoenix; daughter, Angela Lu, Wuhan, China; grandchildren, Kaleb Berend, Kaycee Yannuzzi and Levi Lu; great-grandchildren, Keegan Lanoue, Atlas and Ripley Yannuzzi; 5 brothers, Arnold, William, Stanley, Douglas and Ron Giesbrecht; 4 sisters, Margaret Classen, Bonnie Decker, Phoebe Giesbrecht and Mary Dirks. Anna was preceded in death by: sons, Charles and Kevin; her parents; siblings, Alvin, Milton, Tobias, Bennie, Gerhard, John and Jerry Giesbrecht and Edna Schneider.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum, Hutchinson, with Wayne DeWindt officiating. Burial next to Kevin at St. Agnes Cemetery, rural Castleton, Kansas will follow a family meal and memory time. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 5pm to 7pm, at Elliott Mortuary, and from 10am to 11am, Wednesday morning, at the church.

Ronald Eugene ‘Ron’ Southards, 79, died on June 29, 2019, at Hospice House. He was born on December 12, 1939, in Trousdale, Kansas, to Walter F. Sr. and Alta Marie (Ellis) Southards. He grew up in Belpre, Kansas.

Ron worked at Morton Salt and later was a power lineman before becoming a landlord operating Ron’s Residential Rentals.

He is survived by: wife, Kay; children, Alan Southards (Jacquie Chansler), Tina Ford (Rusty), and Chanin Aumiller (David); grandchildren, Jamie Anderson (Matt), Randy Ford, Meghan Graham (Ian), Dallas Aumiller (Lynsi), and Chiann Frank (Dalton); great-grandchildren, Harriet, Landry, and Ava; siblings, Walt Jr. Southards (Janet), Janet Bibbs (Charles), Sharon Yoder (Ron); and sister-in-law, Susan Southards. He was preceded in death by: his parents and siblings, Betty (Red) Robinson, Kenny (Anita) Southards, and Bruce Southards.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2019, at Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson, with Ron Yoder officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory.

Gordon Ray Hedrick, 72, of Hutchinson, died June 28, 2019.

Georgia L. Darrow, 79, of Hutchinson, died June 29, 2019, at Pleasant Hills, Hutchinson. She was born September 23, 1939, in Hutchinson, to George Phillip and Lula Frances (Carson) Holland.

Georgia graduated from St. Teresa Catholic School in 1957 and Hutchinson Community College in 1959. She worked as a bookkeeper for ServiceMaster of Hutchinson and retired as the bookkeeper for AnswerLink of Kansas. Georgia was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and Marian Mantle Prayer Group. She was very active at Church of the Holy Cross as a prayer warrior, and in other church activities. Georgia enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren and family.

On June 20, 1959, she married Lance Phillip Darrow in Hutchinson. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Georgia is survived by: husband, Lance of Hutchinson; children, Maureen Stewart and husband Scott of Sykesville, MD, Kyle Darrow of Hutchinson, Colleen Darrow of Lawrence; four grandchildren, Katie (Stewart) Taddei, Alex, Braxton, and Evan Darrow; brother, John Holland and wife Janet; sister, Joan Scott and husband Jerry; and brother-in-law, David Cowles. She was preceded in death by: her parents; infant brother, Patrick John Holland; and sister, LuAnne Cowles.

Parish Rosary will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Road, Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church, both officiated by Father Aaron Spexarth. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Florene Lee Shelley, 90, of Hutchinson, passed away June 28, 2019, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born July 3, 1928, in Hutchinson, to Alfred Farlow and Ethyl Irene (Dewhirst) Shelley.

Florene was a 1946 graduate of Hutchinson High School, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the University of Kansas in 1952. She retired as a Registered Dietician at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, after 25 years of service. Florene is survived by: nieces, Cindy English, Elana Peterson and Lorie Wolf; and fifteen great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William Shelley.

Graveside service will be on her birthday at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Boulevard, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Jackie Sue ‘Jackie Blue’ McElravy, joined her momma in heaven on June 27, 2019, at age 63. She was born September 27, 1955, in Wichita, to Jack and Margaret (Banworth) McElravy.

Jackie graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1973, where she was active in music and drama. She proudly served in the United States Navy as a paralegal in the JAG corps. Jackie also worked on the assembly line at the York air-conditioner manufacturing plant in Wichita. She loved her family, singing, playing guitar, the Beatles, and watching Judges Judy, Alex, and Mathis.

Jackie is survived by her sisters, Carol Richerson (Jim) and Lori Beck (Brian Fry). She loved being an aunt to her nieces and nephew: Carrie Wellborn (Greg), Sarah Ensz (Derek), Mick Jones (Tiffany), Brooke Legleiter (Shawn), and great-nieces and nephews. Jackie was preceded in death by: her mother, Margaret Starke; father, Jack McElravy; and brother, Stephen McElravy.

Cremation has taken place and a private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.

Audrey Lee Peterson, 92, of Hutchinson, died June 27, 2019, at Hester Care Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson. She was born March 10, 1927, in Little River, to Glenn J. and Nettie M. (Kingsley) Lackey. Audrey graduated from Inman High School in 1945 and was a homemaker. She loved to cook and spend time with her grandchildren. Audrey was of the Christian faith.

On June 12, 1948, she married LeRoy Peterson in Hutchinson. He died July 30, 2009.

Audrey is survived by: children, Nattalie Vickers, Wichita, Kelly Peterson, McPherson, Angie Peterson, Hutchinson; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Lowell Peterson; grandson, Gordon Peterson; granddaughter, Natausha Sims; great-granddaughter, Allyana Sims; and siblings, Ruthagene, Lois, and Buddy.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
