Milton Haugsness, 83, of Hutchinson, went to be with the Lord on February 6, 2019, at Pleasant Hills Assisted Living.
He was born on May 22, 1935, in Kelly, Kansas, one of 12 children of Severre John and Lillian Haugsness. Milton was a resident of Hutchinson since 1957. Milton attended school at Saints Peter and Paul, Seneca, until the 8th grade.
He is survived by: his wife, Rosa Mae of 20 years; six children, Cynthia, Seneca, KS; Michael (Andrea) North Richland Hills, TX; John (Kim) Hutchinson; Beth (Larry) Wichita; Bryon (Sara) Hutchinson; Greg (Kristin) Spring Hill, KS; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Brannan, Topeka, Margaret Albers, Lincoln, NE, Karin Reilly, McDonough, GA; and brothers, William Haugsness (Betty), Kansas City, MO, Richard Haugsness (Mary Ann), Seneca, Larry Haugsness (Jan), Las Vegas, NV.
Milton belonged to St. Teresa Parish, Moose Lodge #982, and was a Fourth Degree Knight.
Milton was a man of many talents and gifted himself to anyone who needed help. Milton spent his life as a Fuller Brush salesman, dairy helper, International Harvester assembler, and he worked for Decker and Mattison in Hutchinson, insulating many homes in Kansas and Nebraska, before he became a sheet metal journeyman and installed furnaces and air conditioners. In his later years, he was a RCAT driver for Reno County in Hutchinson and enjoyed transporting the TECH clients. Milton was preceded in death by: his first wife, Louise Haugsness; three brothers; and two sisters.
Parish Rosary will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2019, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m., all at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 E. 5th Hutchinson, with Father Michael J. Maybrier officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Milton’s visitation will coincide with his son, John’s visitation. John died February 7, 2019.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson High Salthawks defeated the Valley Center Hornets 54-51 on Friday night.
Hutchinson’s Tate Webster hits a short jumper against Valley Center. Webster was one of the top three scorers in Friday night’s game.
Hutchinson’s Jacob Cole started the game off strong by sinking a shot with less than a minute gone. Hutchinson finished the first quarter with a 14-7 lead.
The Salthawks extended that lead to 24-16 at halftime.
The Salthawks had three players end the night in double digits. Tate Webster and Weston Kraus each had 10. Jacob Cole finished with 15.
Valley Center hit five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to take a two-point lead.
With 24 seconds left, Cole nailed a 3-pointer to put the Salthawks ahead for good.

Wilma Jean Boesch, 79, of Hutchinson, died Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born January 14, 1940, at Smith Center, to Wardie Elroy and Irma Marie (Turner) Carver.
She was a 1958 graduate of Hastings (Nebraska) High School. Wilma Jean was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and homemaker.
On May 21, 1960, she married William Lee Boesch at Hastings, Nebraska. Her husband Bill, of 58 years, survives. Also surviving are: daughters, Linda Riddle and husband Bryan of Park City, Laurie Yates and husband Robert of Inman; son, David Boesch and wife Cindy of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Terry Carver of Beatrice, Nebraska; six grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Ivan Carver.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2019, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Dr. Kim Biery presiding. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory , Hutchinson.

Mary Ann Nobbs, 81, of Hutchinson, died February 5, 2019, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born July 1, 1937, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the daughter of Franklin H. and Lydia A. (Ewan) Huffmaster.
Mary Ann graduated from Wichita East High School in 1955 and was a homemaker. She loved reading and cooking for her family. Mary Ann was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Hutchinson, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, served on the Kitchen Committee, Prayer Chain, Visitation Team, sang in the choir, and was passionate about missions.
On September 4, 1955, she married Wayne A. Nobbs Jr. in Wichita. They shared 63 years of marriage. He survives. Also surviving are: daughter, Debra Snyder (Mike), Fort Worth, TX; sons, David Nobbs (Janice), St. Cloud, FL, Kevin Nobbs (Brenda), Hutchinson; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; a niece and two nephews. Mary Ann was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Allison Branson; brother, Jim Minor; and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, with Dr. Roy Jaye officiating. Private family burial will take place in Fairlawn Burial Park. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will greet friends following the service on Sunday.

James Albert (Jim) Lee, 85, of Hutchinson, died Monday, February 4, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born February 27, 1933, in Vinita, OK, to Roy and Rosabelle Lee.
He attended Hutchinson High School and joined the Army in 1950 where he attained the rank of Staff Sargent and proudly served our country in the Korean War. Jim upheld his pride for the Armed Forces after his service in the Army and recently participated in the Kansas Honor Flight program going to Washington, DC.
Jim was a member of First Christian Church and the longtime owner of Price Poultry in Hutchinson, KS. He loved the outdoors and treasured his time golfing, hunting and fishing. Jim valued his Native American heritage and maintained his connection with the community.
Shortly after joining the Army, Jim married his high school sweetheart Patricia L. Price on December 2, 1950. She survives him along with: son, James Lee and wife Jannifer of Montgomery, TX; daughters, Katie Flora of Hutchinson, KS, and Nancy Goss and husband Dale of Plano, TX; four grandchildren, James Lee and wife Ali of Colorado Springs, CO, Sam Lee and wife Melissa of Plymouth, MN, Morgan Chesser and husband Taylor of Dallas, TX; and Lindsey Goss of Lawrence, KS; three great-grandchildren, Taya, Jenny and Caroline; and brothers, Gene Lee of Spokane, WA, and John Lee of Queensbury, NY. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A family graveside will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2019, at Elliott Mortuary. HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Freshman sharpshooter Tyler Brown provided a huge offensive spark with a career night to help the Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball team snap a two-game losing streak on Wednesday at the Sports Arena.

Brown scored a career-high 17 points, hitting several key 3-pointers to lift the No. 22 Blue Dragons to an 81-68 victory over Northwest Kansas Tech as the second round of playing Jayhawk West teams began.
The Blue Dragons move to 19-5 overall and 10-5 in the Jayhawk West. Hutch is alone in third place in the Jayhawk West, one-half game ahead of Colby, which had its game with Dodge City postponed. Hutch is still two games off the pace of Jayhawk West leader Seward County. Northwest Tech falls to 12-12 and 4-11 in league play.
Brown had an early 3-pointer to help the Dragons to a quick 10-0 lead. He hit his second to start a 7-0 run to expand Hutch’s first-half lead to 29-12. Brown’s final two treys had even more impact.
After Hutch built leads as large as 23 points in the second half, Northwest Tech whittled that deficit down to 10 points (67-57) with 4:14 remaining. Brown nailed a 3-pointer with 4:06 left to slow the Maverick comeback. He took all the wind out of Tech’s sails at the 2:46 mark when his fifth 3-pointer gave the Blue Dragons a 76-61 lead.
Brown was 5 of 6 shooting, all shots were from distance, and he went 2 of 2 from the free-throw line for a career-high 17 points.
James Rojas scored a team-high 19 points on 8 of 16 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers. Rojas also had nine rebounds.
Rheaquone Taylor finished with 14 points and four boards. Saquan Singleton and Chris Giles scored nine points each.
The Blue Dragons shot 50 percent for the fourth-straight game hitting 30 of 60 total shots, going 8 of 12 from 3-point range and 13 of 19 from the free-throw line. The Blue Dragons had 19 assists on 30 makes and 12 steals, but had 19 turnovers.
Miles Gibson scored a game-high 20 points on 9 of 20 shooting. He posted a double-double with 10 rebounds. Henry Hampton had 17 points. The Dragons held Tech’s second-leading scorer, Chris Freeman, to seven points on 3 of 12 shooting.
Northwest Tech finished shooting 43.3 percent (26 of 60), hitting 3 of 11 from 3-point range and 13 of 18 from the foul line. Tech had 17 turnovers.
The Blue Dragons jumped out to that early 10-0 lead by holding Tech without a field goal for the first 4:30 of the game. The Mavericks got within eight points three times after that early surge, but Hutch answered every time with buckets by Taylor, Fred Odhiambo and Josh Perkins.
Brown’s 3-pointer at the 8:17 mark started a 7-0 Hutch run that extended the lead to 29-12 with 5:33 to play in the half. Tech closed the first half on a 15-7 run to pull within 36-27 by halftime.
Hutch had a strong start to the second half with a Taylor jumper, Chris Giles layup and Odhiambo dunk to lead 42-27 with 18:13 remaining. Brown’s 3-pointer with 14:09 to play in the half gave Hutch an 18-5 run and a 54-33 lead.
Over the next 10 minutes, Northwest Tech slowly chipped away at the Dragons. A Hampton 3-pointer at the 4:15 mark – Hampton was also fouled on the play – pulled the Mavericks within 65-56. That led to a wild sequence as Hampton was called for his second technical foul of the game on that same play and was ejected. Brown hit both technical free throws while on the other end Brandon Beloti completed the four-point play on the made 3-pointer. Hutch led 67-57 after that and Brown nailed a 3-pointer, which spelled the beginning of the end for Northwest Tech.

Hutchinson is in the midst of another stretch of four games in eight days. The Blue Dragons are on the road for the next two – Saturday at Garden City (4 p.m.) and Monday at Pratt.
GAME NOTES – This was Hutchinson’s all-time 1,799th victory. Hutch is now 5-0 all-time against Northwest Tech. The Dragons are 10-2 at home this season. This was the 11th time this season for Hutch to shoot 50 percent or better. Hutch’s bench outscored Northwest Tech’s 39-11.
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It took a while, but the Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team finished strong Wednesday night to put away a resilient Northwest Kansas Tech team.

Leading by only 10 points after three quarters to the winless Mavericks, the No. 10-ranked Blue Dragons flexed their muscle in a dominant fourth quarter to rebounded from Saturday’s loss to Seward County in a 100-69 Jayhawk West win over Northwest Tech at the Sports Arena.
The Blue Dragons improve to 23-1 overall and remain tied with Seward County for first place in the Jayhawk West at 14-1. The Dragons sweep the season series with Northwest Tech, which falls to 0-23 and 0-15.
For three quarters on Wednesday, the Blue Dragons’ couldn’t pull away from Northwest Tech. The Mavericks led 35-34 with 1:57 to play in the second quarter. Back-to-back Keeley Tini baskets and a Makayla Vannett 3-pointer helped Hutch take a 41-38 halftime lead.
The Blue Dragons scored the first 11 points of the third quarter to lead 52-38 with 7:38 remaining in the period. But powered by the three-pronged attack of N’Dea Flye, Josie Cook and Jybre Johnson – those three players combined for 53 points – the Mavericks stayed within striking distance. Hutch led 70-60 after three periods.
An 8-1 start to the fourth quarter finally upped the Blue Dragon lead to 16 points. The Dragons then held Northwest Tech without a field goal for the final 6:04 of the game. The Dragons knocked down 9 of 17 shots in the fourth to outscore the Mavericks 30-9 in the final 10 minutes to pull away.
Sophomore Dejanae Roebuck came back strong from a sub-par night against Seward County on Saturday with her 20th career double-double (sixth this season) with 23 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. Roebuck was 8 of 13 shooting, including a 3-pointer.
Roebuck became the 17th Blue Dragon to reach 800 career points (821) and moved into 10th place on the Blue Dragon career rebounding list with 498 career boards.
Tini scored a career-high 20 points on 9 of 12 shooting with five rebounds.
Jada Mickens became the 30th Blue Dragon to reach the 700 career-point mark with 15 points and nine rebounds. Mickens was 9 of 13 from the free-throw line. Mickens now has 711 career points.
All 12 Blue Dragons to suit up scored on Wednesday. Tijuana Kimbro and Vannett had eight points each. Milan Schimmel dished out a career-best eight assists.
The Blue Dragons finished the game 34 of 72 shooting (47.2 percent), hitting 6 of 25 from 3-point range and 26 of 34 free throws. The Dragons dominated the boards, outrebounding Northwest Tech 50-26 with 20 offensive rebounds. The Dragons had 23 assists on 34 made baskets and 12 steals.
Northwest Tech’s Flye posted opponent individual season highs of 26 points, nine assists and seven steals to lead the Mavericks. Cook had 15 points, followed by Johnson with 12 and Kiara Tharpe with 10.
The Mavericks shot 40.7 percent, just the fourth team to shoot 40 percent or better this season against Hutchinson, hitting 24 of 59 total shots. Tech was 6 of 19 from 3-point range and 15 of 23 from the foul line. Northwest Tech had 19 turnovers, but had 13 steals.

The Blue Dragons owns a 52-24 advantage in points in the paint and a 22-5 advantage in second-chance points. Hutch’s bench outscored Northwest Tech’s 44-6.
