Donna M. Showalter, 88, died Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born July 17, 1930, in Hutchinson, to Donald H. and Elsie F. (Emery) Sellers.

Donna graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1948 and Emporia State Teachers College in 1954. She was a home economics teacher at Liberty Middle School.  Donna was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a 50-year member of PEO Chapter EK.  She was an excellent cook, and enjoyed playing bridge, but her true joy was her family.  She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.

On January 27, 1952, she married John Showalter in Hutchinson.

Donna is survived by:  her husband of 66 years, John; son, Chris Showalter and wife Dee Ann; daughter, Ann Cooper and husband Andy; daughter-in-law, Marlene Showalter (Stan Martindell); brothers, Merl Sellers, Dean Sellers, Ron Sellers and wife Ann; sister-in-law, Elanor McCoy; and grandchildren, Sara Showalter, Cari Torrez and husband Corey, Thomas Showalter and fiancée Abby Beuerlein, Crosby Cooper, Kelsey Cooper (Mitchell Wittman).

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; son, Fred Showalter; brother, Harold Sellers; and sisters-in-law, Roonie Sellers and Gay Sellers.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman, Hutchinson, with Keith Neill officiating.  Private family burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.  Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Juan Gonzales, 69, of Hutchinson, passed from this life on November 14, 2018. He was born July 1, 1949, in Hutchinson, the 7th child of Juan Florez and Guadalupe (Martinez) Gonzales. Juan was a member of Hutchinson High School class of 1968 and earned an associate’s degree from HCC. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam era.

Juan was an accomplished bass player, playing in bands from the age of 14. Preparing food for people was his way of showing his love of food and people and he was the owner of Juan’s Restaurant in northern California and the Crazy Horse Dining Hall in Arlington.

Juan showed his skill at building and mentoring as the Special Projects Developer and Transitional Jobs Coordinator for people coming through New Beginnings and rebuilding their lives. He was instrumental in developing community resources for the initial start of NOEL Lodge.

Juan married Shara Phillips on December 31, 1986, and they enjoyed their life together for 33 years and brought together a family of eight children.

He is survived by: his wife; sons, Don Baringer, Wichita, Madio Gonzales, Sage Gonzales, Tempe, AZ, Kilo Gonzales, Mesa, AZ, Miah Gonzales, Brooklyn, NY, Matthew Griffin, Hutchinson; daughters, Samantha Canales (Lance), Fresno, CA, Gabrielle Gonzales, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Keenon Gonzales-Brown, Gena Gonzales, Dakota Gonzales, Chastity Schral, Sagey Gonzales, Kali Gonzales, Jasmine Gonzales; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Gilberto Gonzales (Rosa), Fernando Gonzales (Vanessa), Rachel Gonzales, Angie Harms; sister-in-law, Sally Berger (Rick); and brother-in-law, Tom Phillips.

Juan was preceded in death by: his parents; siblings, Rodolfo, Roberto, Armando; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dan and Martie Phillips; and brother-in-law, Jim Phillips.

His love and wisdom will be greatly missed.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2018, at Elliott Chapel. A reception will follow at Rice Park Community Building. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to New Beginnings, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Alvin W. ‘Al’ Schwertfeger, 88, died Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. He was born March 24, 1930, in Iuka, to August and Lydia (Klute) Schwertfeger.

Al graduated from Preston High School in 1948 and served from 1952 to 1954 in the United States Navy. He graduated from Central Technical Institute, Kansas City, Missouri, in 1957, and retired after 24 years of service to the Federal Aviation Administration as an electronic engineer. Al enjoyed playing golf and working with electronics, especially ham radio. He built his first ham radio at the age of 16! Al was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church for over 21 years.

On September 17, 1950, he married Donna Rolf in Natrona, Kansas.

Al is survived by: his wife of 68 years, Donna; son, Galen and wife Belinda; granddaughters, Arrianne Carder (Stoney), Alexandra Howard (Dr. Thomas); and great-grandchildren, Grant, Morgan, Paige, Grayson, Olivia, and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; five brothers; and great-grandson, Riley.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2018, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 East 12th, Hutchinson, with Pastors Quentin Nuttmann and Henry Blickhahn officiating. Graveside service will be 12:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Preston, Kansas, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N.
