SALINA, Kans – The Hutchinson Monarchs (6-2) snagged a late lead and defeated Salina Shock 15-14 Saturday to keep their 4 game winning streak alive.

The game was tied at 14 with the Monarchs batting in the top of the ninth when Dylan Nedved’s sac fly scored one run for Hutchinson Monarchs.

Hutchinson Monarchs built an eight-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Salina Shock’s charge. Salina Shock put up 11 runs in the failed comeback. Sam Creed, Cam Wessel, Jake Passow, John Oliver, Colton Moore, and Kyle Starcher came through with RBIs to lead the rally.

Hutchinson took the lead early in the game in the second inning as Brayden Whitchurch drove in two with a rbi single.

In the top of the seventh inning, Hutchinson tied things up at 14 when Taylor Barber homered on a 3-2 count, scoring three runs.

Salina Shock scored seven runs in the fifth inning as Salina’s Creed, Wessel, Passow, Oliver, and Mooreeach drove in runs during the inning.

Joshua Fortenberry toed the rubber for Hutchinson Monarchs. He allowed ten hits and eight runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six.

Justan Bailey started for Salina. He surrendered 11 runs on ten hits over five innings, striking out six. Joshua Robinson and Bryan Lawrence entered the game as relief, throwing three innings and one inning respectively.
Hutchinson Monarchs smacked five home runs on the day. Nedved went for the long ball in the fifth inning. Whitchurch went deep in the third inning. Barber had a dinger in the second, fifth, and seventh innings.
Hutchinson Monarchs had 15 hits in the game. Nedved, Barber, Jeremiah Ceasar, Whitchurch, and Colton Cowser all had multiple hits for Hutchinson Monarchs. Nedved went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Hutchinson Monarchs in hits.
Salina Shock racked up 18 hits in the game. Mike Karam, Moore, Ryan Chargo, Creed, Wessel, and Oliver each racked up multiple hits for Salina Shock. Karam led Salina Shock with four hits in six at bats.

The Monarchs return to Eck Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University on Tuesday as they take on the El Dorado Broncos at 8 pm.

HILLSBORO, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs (4-2) stole the lead late and defeated the Wichita Sluggers 7-3 Thursday at Tabor College in Hillsboro. The game was tied at three with the Monarchs batting in the top of the eighth when Jackson Loftin was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.

Hutchinson earned the victory despite allowing the Sluggers to score three runs in the fifth inning. Lumpkin, Hartman and Colton Bertus all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Patrick Kudelka got the start for Hutchinson. He allowed four hits and three runs over 4 1/3 innings, striking out six.

Paddy Walsh led things off on the pitcher’s mound for the Wichita Sluggers. He surrendered seven runs on eight hits over nine innings, striking out eight.

Hutchinson racked up eight hits in the game. Dylan Nedved and Garrett Stephens each collected multiple hits for the Monarchs. Stephens and Nedved each collected two hits to lead Hutchinson.

Bertus led the Wichita Sluggers with three hits in four at-bats. The Sluggers were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Abel Osario made the most plays with eight.

Hutchinson returns home to Hobart-Detter Field Friday for another game versus the Wichita Sluggers.

BUHLER, Kan. — The Hutchinson High Salthawks baseball team played a previously postponed double header late Friday afternoon, but not in the friendly confines of Hobart-Detter Field.

Because of recent rains, the games were moved to Wheatland Park in Buhler on Wray Field. Wheatland Park is an all-weather complex with field turf and was open since Buhler played the day before.

The only problem was that the Salthawks bats were silent as AVCT league foe Haysville-Campus was their opponent. Hutch High dropped both games: 9-3 and 11-0.

The Salthawks were competitive in Game 1 and even led 2-1 after 3 innings, but Campus squezed in a run in the top of the 4th and tacked on three more in both the 5th and 6th innings. Errors left the door open for Campus in the 5th and Campus pounded out 11 hits to take the win.

Ryan Leslie was spectacular for the Colts pitching and Campus produced runs with the top and bottom half of the order. Hutchinson scored 3 runs on 6 hits, but committed 2 errors. Ryan Cherry took the loss.

In Game 2, Campus lived up to the name of its mascot as the Colts bolted out of the gates for 5 runs and 8 stolen bases in the 1st inning alone to cruise to an 11-0 win. Campus (16-1) tacked on three more runs in the 6th and two in the 7th as the Colts pounded out 12 hits in the win. Ryan Leslie had 5 RBI including a solo home run in the 2nd inning. Leslie was as impressive at the plate in Game 2 as he was on the bump in Game 1.

Hutchinson (5-13) travels to Great Bend next Tuesday for a double header against the Panthers for one game and the TMP Monarchs from Hays in the other matchup.

Game times are 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

NEWTON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Salthawks snapped a 7-game losing streak and started a winning streak of their own by sweeping Newton 5-0, 6-4 in baseball action at Newton’s Centennial Park Klein-Scott Field Tuesday evening. Ryan Cherry pitched a 3-hit shutout in Game 1. He struck out eight in the win.

Hutchinson scored runs in the first, fifth and seventh while shutting out Newton. Senior Jackson Wells broke out of a brief slump by going 4-4, all singles. Wells drove in a run and scored a run. Senior Garrett Davis added two hits and an RBI. Sophomore Kaden Goldsmith also drove in two runs.

In Game 2, Hutchinson jumped on Newton pitcher Matt Edlridge for 6 runs in the first three innings to lead 6-0 before Newton rallied to pull within 2 at 6-4. Sophomore Bennett Turner went 5 2/3 innings and got the win. Sophomore Jarrod Stoffel came on in relief and got the save.

Kaden Goldsmith drove in two runs for Hutchinson. Korey Holmberg and Cherry each went 3 for 4 hitting with an RBI. Jackson Wells went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Carter Booe went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Dallas Chambers went 3 for 4 at the plate as well.

Hutchinson’s record is now 5-9 and host Salina South at Hobart-Detter Field in Carey Park Friday. Newton falls to 1-11.

GODDARD, Kan. — It was like the Salthawks never could catch a break Thursday at Eisenhower Field in Goddard.

Hutchinson dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Goddard-Eisenhower 5-1 in Game 1 and 11-1 in the shortened run-ruled late game.

Hutchinson did load the bases in the top half of the 7th in Game 1, but Garrett Davis hit into a game-ending double play. Davis represented the tying run in that inning.

Eisenhower held the Salthawks to one hit in the first game. In Game 2, Hutchinson gave up 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning and could never get on track.

The Salthawks are in action again next Tuesday, April 23, in a doubleheader with Newton. That game will be audio streamed on HutchPost.com.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Salthawk baseball hoped some home cooking would snap a three-game losing streak, but the Goddard Lions had other ideas.

Facing what may have been the strongest competition this season, Goddard made quick work of Hutch High in Game 1 and won 11-0 by run rule. Hutchinson stranded a couple of runners in each of the first two innings and couldn’t throw strikes as Goddard (8-2) held Hutchinson to only three hits in the first contest.

The nightcap was more competitive. Hutchinson got good relief pitching from Jackson Albert, but fell 12-6. Hutchinson has now dropped five straight dating back to the split with Derby last week.

Hutchinson hopes to regain its winning ways versus Goddard Eisenhower on the road Thursday afternoon.
