Donald R. ‘Don’ Cavanaugh, 76, of Hutchinson, died October 3, 2018, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. He was born October 26, 1941, in Great Bend, to Leslie and Velda (Luman) Cavanaugh.

Don graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1959. He retired as a salesman for Mantek. Don served in the United States Army from November 1963 to November 1965.

He is survived by siblings, Tom Cavanaugh (Sue) of Hutchinson and Lori Menhusen (Phillip) of Mankato. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dallas and Carl.

Cremation has taken place and per his wishes, there will be no service.

David Cromwell Miller, 56, of Hutchinson, died October 1, 2018, at his home. He was born February 3, 1962, in Hutchinson, the son of Larry and Beverly (Miller) Cromwell.

David graduated from Hutchinson High School and worked at Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers and TECH, Inc. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church.

David is survived by: mother, Beverly of Hutchinson; father, Larry and wife Gracie of Commerce City; CO; numerous cousins; long-time friend, Steve Brown of Hutchinson; friend and guardian, Connie Warrington of Hutchinson; many local friends; and his TECH family. He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Lawrence and Ruth Miller, and aunt, Marilyn Miller.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2018, at Elliott Chapel with Pastors Howard Wagler and Richard Haley officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Dr. Jack Clare Schroll, 94, of Hutchinson, entered eternal life on October 1, 2018, at the Hester Care Center at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson, KS. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Marjorie (Prentice) Schroll, his parents, Arthur G. Schroll and Phoebe (Price) Schroll, and his brother, Ted Schroll.

Jack was born in Hutchinson, KS on September 15, 1924. He was an Eagle Scout from Troop 19 and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1942. In 1945, he graduated from the University of Kansas where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and Naval ROTC. While at KU, he met the love of his life, Ruth, and they were married on November 21, 1945. After graduating from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1949, he interned at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland (1949 ” 1950). This internship was interrupted by two years in the naval service during the Korean War as a Medical Officer in Panama. In 1952, he started his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Kansas. Before completing his residency in 1955, he also completed a fellowship during 1953 in Endocrinology at Duke University, Durham, NC.

Dr. Schroll began a solo practice in Hutchinson as a specialist in OB-Gyn in November 1955. In 1959, Jack began to approach other physicians to discuss the idea of a multi-specialty clinic for Hutchinson. By the time the Hutchinson Clinic building was completed, six other physician partners (Robert Crawford, James Stout, J.D. Burger, Jack Perkins, Marion Sumner, and Ken Hedrick) joined Jack in moving into the building at 12th and Main. This building was expanded twice before the physicians moved in 1978 to the clinic’s present location at 2101 N. Waldron, across from Hutchinson’s new regional hospital. Jack continued to practice there and provided leadership until his retirement in 1988. During his career, he also served as Chief of OB-Gyn at both the old Grace Hospital and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. He was part of the original small group of physicians encouraging these two hospital boards to merge to form the new Hutchinson Hospital. He served many years in the Kansas Medical Society, including five years as Chairman of the Maternal Mortality Committee. Also, he served three, one-year terms as Vice Chairman and then Chairman of the Kansas Section of the American Association of Obstetrics and Gynecologists.

Jack loved the University of Kansas and served three years on the Board of Directors of the Alumnae Association. During this time, the Adams K.U. Alumni Center was planned and built. Jack served his community in many ways including President of the Hutchinson Community Concert Association, President of the Knife and Fork Club, a Director of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of Rotary International, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Wesley Towers Retirement Community. He was a champion for higher education and initiated efforts to start the International Baccalaureate degree at Hutchinson High School. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since childhood and served as past chairperson of the Administrative Board as well as other committees for Trinity Church. He also completed the Stephen’s Ministry program and had a very strong faith. While living in Olathe, KS for eight of their recent years, Jack and Ruth were associate members of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS.

Jack was devoted to his family, medical practice, church and community. In his leisure time, he loved to play tennis and golf at Prairie Dunes Country Club, swim with his children and grandchildren in his backyard pool, and attend KU football and basketball games. He also enjoyed boating, water skiing, hunting, fishing, golfing and traveling with family, grandchildren and friends. Jack never lost his enthusiasm to learn and spent many hours a day reading.

Survivors include the following: three daughters, Nancy Buda (Sandy) of Omaha, NE; Dr. Kathryn Graves (Jeff) of Hutchinson, KS; Barbara Saathoff (Ken) of Overland Park, KS; and one son, Dr. John Schroll (Valjean Parker) of Olathe, KS; eight grandchildren, Matthew Schroll (Amy) of Chicago, IL; Jeffery Graves (Anne) of Mission Hills, KS; Adam Buda (Bridget) of Omaha, NE; Jonathon Graves (Rikki) of Park City, KS; Katy (Graves) Walenz (Anthony) of Moore, OK; Ali Buda of Omaha, NE; Dan Saathoff (Kayli) of Prairie Village, KS; Abbey (Saathoff) Chingren (Chris) of Kansas City, MO; five great- grandchildren, twins Lily and Emma Graves, Ruth Anne and A.J. Walenz, and Jaxson Graves; two step great-grandchildren, Donovan and Jacob Buda of Omaha, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson. Private family burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, at Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson. The family will greet guests immediately following the Celebration of Life service in the church’s Thorne Hall.

Patricia Anne ‘Patty’ Gregg, 66, of Nickerson, died September 30, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born March 17, 1952, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Vincent and Evelyn (Walker) Stanley.

Patty graduated from St. Mary of the Plains High School, Dodge City, in 1970. She was an interior designer and loved gardening, flowers, and her Westies. Patty was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, and loved visiting her neighbors. She was a 30-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous and an active member of Christ’s Bible Church, Nickerson.

On March 9, 1991, she married Frank H. Gregg in Hutchinson. Patty is survived by: husband, Frank of Nickerson; children, Nick Buckaloo (Madison) of Wichita, Matt Buckaloo of Kansas City, Kansas, Chandy Salinas (Kenny), Penny Wainscott (Adam Salcido), all of Casa Grande, AZ; siblings, Gayle Gottsche, Judy Morris, Michael Scott, Ed Stanley; grandchildren, Jacy Boll (Bianca Guillen), Tyler Wainscott, Chesnie Wainscott, Kaylee Buckaloo, Mackenzie Meier, Paizlie Salinas, Boston Castor, Kendall Sweeney; and great-grandchildren, Eliza Boll and Aiden Martinez. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Ernie Buckaloo.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Philip Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Chase Richard Loudenback, 28, of Hutchinson, died Friday, September 28, 2018, in Hutchinson, after losing his ongoing battle with addiction. He was born December 29, 1989, in Hutchinson, the son of Chad Richard and Kelly Denise (Hansen) Loudenback.

Chase graduated from Buhler High School in 2008. He attended Dodge City Community College, graduated from Hutchinson Community College and attended Post University, where he was on the baseball team for each school. Chase was employed at Longfellow Foundations and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Beginning at a young age, he was extremely active and competitive in everything he did. Growing up, he played soccer, basketball, and football, but baseball was where he truly excelled. Chase was a huge sports fan and loved the outdoors, especially bow hunting. For those that knew Chase, he had an infectious laugh and his smile lit up a room. Chase was a compassionate and loving person. He had a big heart and loved his family and friends, and they will all miss him dearly.

Chase is survived by: his parents, Chad and Kristi Loudenback, and Kelly Loudenback and Darrell Walker all of Hutchinson; sisters, Mallory Loudenback, Overland Park, and Addisyn Loudenback, Hutchinson; grandparents, Richard Loudenback, Hutchinson, Dale and Chris Hansen, Turon, and Dixie and B.J.Lockey, Cedar Creek, MO; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Joan Loudenback.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Grace Bible Church, 1221 East 33rd Avenue, Hutchinson with Pastor Rick Goertzen presiding. Inurnment will be in Abbyville Cemetery. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.

Chase, like others suffering from this disease, was so much more than his addiction.
