Norma Giesick, 60, passed Friday, August 2, 2019. She was born January 14, 1959, in La Crosse, KS, to Harold Dean and Mary Ella (Johnson) Dalton.

She attended Otis-Bison High School, Barton Community College and received her degree as an RHIT from the American Health Mgt. Assoc. Norma enjoyed her work in medical records for 26 years at Good Samaritan Society Village.

Her favorite pastimes were traveling, observing Mother Nature’s beauty, outdoor activities, riding ATV’s, motorcycling with her husband, and spending time with her family.

On December 13, 1974, she married Robert Giesick in La Crosse. Her husband, Robert (Bob), of 44 years, survives. Also surviving are: children, Jesse Giesick and wife Heather, Melissa Ratzlaff and husband Kyle; grandchildren, Monica Giesick, Kade Ratzlaff and Kameron Ratzlaff, all of Hutchinson; brothers, Jerry Dalton and wife Rhonda of Wichita, Robert Dalton and wife Mary of Bison, and Jimmy Dalton of Great Bend; sisters, Lonnie Call and partner Barry Morrell of Arlington, Connie Wharton and husband Lyle of Clay Center; and sister-in-law, Debbie Dalton of Otis. Norma was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Terry Dalton.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019, at First Church of the Nazarene, 4290 N. Monroe, Hutchinson, with Pastor Kent Pedersen officiating. Cremation has taken place.  Friends may sign her register from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.

Mary Britt, 102, died Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Legend of Hutchinson.  She was born December 19, 1916, in rural Morris County, Kansas, to Leander and Birdie (Burton) Shaw.

Mary graduated from Parkerville High School in Morris County.  She was a homemaker and an active member of First Baptist Church, Hutchinson, where she helped with various activities, including Sunday school.

On June 2, 1938, she married Donald A. Britt in Council Grove, Kansas.  After sharing 60 years of a loving marriage, he died May 30, 1998.

Mary is survived by: son, D.C. Britt and wife Jacquelyn of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughters, Shannon Coleman and husband Dan, Shelly Thome and husband Jim, all of Peoria, AZ; grandson, Kane Britt and wife Sarah of Wichita; great-grandsons, Merrick Britt of Wichita, and Joshua Britt and wife Lynda of Glendale, Arizona; great-granddaughters, Brittany Thome and Caitlyn Thome of Peoria, Arizona: and great-great-granddaughter, Haley Britt of Glendale, Arizona. In 1957, Mary and Don sponsored a Hungarian refugee, Frank Hidvegi, who came to live with them in Hutchinson and became a member of the family. Frank lives in Wichita.

In addition to her husband, Don, Mary was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Kent Britt; brothers, George and Lawrence Shaw; and sisters, Blanche Longacre, Eva Kohler, and Charlotte Swain.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Jim Autrey officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with the family present Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Ivan H. Yoder, 81, entered the gates of heaven on August 2, 2019, greeted by his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born December 4, 1937, in Thomas, Oklahoma, to Henry and Mary (Mast) Yoder.

On April 21, 1957, Ivan married Polly N. Miller. Three children were born to this union.

Along with his wife Polly and their sons, Ivan owned and operated Yoder Ornamental Concrete in Burrton for 36 years. Prior to that, he and Polly operated Yoder TV Service in Hutchinson. He was an avid music lover, playing bass for the band, ‘Singing Country Strings’, for many years. In his later years, Ivan played with the praise team at his church. There wasn’t an instrument he wouldn’t tackle – he loved the challenge of picking up an instrument and making music with it, and it was all entirely by ear. Ivan also loved to cook and there are many good memories of him  explaining just what went in a recipe to make it so good. Of course, without measurements!

Ivan is survived by: his wife, Polly of 62 years; daughter, Brenda Janzen (Ken), Henderson, NE; son, Donald Yoder (Doris), Burrton;  grandchildren, Greg Yoder (Leah), Glendale, CA, Jeremy Janzen (Amy), Henderson, NE, Jason Janzen (Amy), Dodge City, Ashley Goertzen (John), Henderson, NE; 9 great-grandchildren, Gavriel, Riley, Anna, Lilly, Blake, Jonah, Emma, Frank and Henry; brother, Emery Yoder (Mary Ellen), Parsons; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Those preceding him in their homecoming were: his son, Carl Douglas; his parents; four brothers; one sister; and stepmother, Laura Yoder.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 11303 E. Longview Rd., Burrton. Burial will follow in Burrton Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Vera Mae Nisly, 89, of Hutchinson, died August 1, 2019, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. She was born June 17, 1930, in Hutchinson, to Edward D. and Elizabeth (Yoder) Nisly.

Vera was a graduate of the Grace Hospital School of Nursing Program and attended Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg, VA. She was employed as a registered nurse at Grace Hospital and then Hutchinson Hospital. Vera was a member of Center Amish Mennonite Church, Hutchinson.

She is survived by: sister, Barbara (David) Miller, South Hutchinson; brothers, William (Elizabeth) Nisly, Hutchinson, Harley Nisly, Hutchinson, Lester (Edna) Nisly, South Carolina, Larry (Barbara) Nisly, Hutchinson, John (Sara Mae) Nisly, Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Iva Nisly and Cora Nisly; brother-in-law, Paul Nisly; 42 nieces and nephews; 164 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 30 great-great nieces and great-great nephews. Vera was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Daniel Nisly and Elmer Nisly; sister, Laura Nisly; two nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2019, at Center Amish Mennonite Church, 7611 W. Morgan Avenue, Hutchinson, with Pastors Dwight Miller, Dwight Nisly, Don Miller, and Brad Nisly officiating. Burial will follow in West Center Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2019, at the church.

Caroline “Joan” Nelson, 81, of Chase, died July 31, 2019, at her home.  She was born April 25, 1938, in Newton, to Daniel and Ruth (Heller) Kasper.

Joan retired from Essex Corporation in Hoisington as a machine operator.  She was of the Southern Baptist faith.

On October 7, 1956, Joan married Clarence Wesley “Bud” Nelson, Sr. in Bushton.  He died February 10, 2011.

Joan is survived by:  sons, Clarence W. Nelson, Jr. of Lakeside, Montana, Lorne Nelson, Lyle Nelson, both of Chase; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Carol Salzman and Laverta Kasper.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no service.  Memorials may be made to the Caroline Nelson Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.

Beverly A. LaClair, 88, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, KS.

Beverly was born February 13, 1931 in Wichita, the daughter of Herbert and Nola (Baumgartner) Beal.  On July 4, 1949 she married Gene G. LaClair in Hutchinson; they were married for 50 years.

Beverly graduated Hutchinson High School in 1949had worked in food service for USD 308 for 17 years and retired in 1987. She also worked for the American Red Cross for 11 years.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and herhusband, Gene; sons, Robert LaClair and Ron LaClair; sister, Betty Burnett; and a brother, Herb Beal.

She is survived by her children, Gary LaClair, Deborah Bigler, Kevin LaClair and Kelley Munden; brother, Harlan Beal and step brothers, Phil Schrader and Max Schrader; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson, KS, with Pastor Montie McFerrin officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 5, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS. Memorials may be given to the American Red Cross and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
