Madeline ‘Louise’ Goodwin, 77, died July 8, 2019.  She was born March 5, 1942, in San Diego, CA, to Lewis Willard and Pauline Gondolla (Young) Smith.

Louise received her GED from Nickerson High School in 1973.  She worked as a machinist at Cessna before becoming a cook for Sunflower Day Care Center, Hutchinson.  The children at the center fondly called Louise ‘Cooker’.  Louise was a proud member of the IAM union.  In addition, she enjoyed being a ticket taker at the Kansas State Fair and a member of TOPS.  Faith was extremely important to Louise and she was a member of New Life Christian Church.

On November 2, 1958, she married James Byron Goodwin in Lyons.  He died October 4, 2015.

Louise is survived by:  sons, Jamie Goodwin and wife Sheryl Van Drie-Goodwin of Columbia, MO, Terry E. Goodwin of Norton; brother, Don Smith of Hutchinson; niece, Donna Chase; nephew, Richard Lee Smith; great-nieces, Brandi Chase, Samantha Willard, Carly Smith; great-nephew, Tanner Smith; granddaughter, Mischa (Terry’s daughter); caregiver, Sandra Ruble; dog, Teddy; and cat, Dolly.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; brother, Lee Roy Smith; granddaughter, Rachel Louise Goodwin; dog, Chloe; and cat, Thomas.

Graveside memorial service will be held in the fall.  Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.

Dr. Kenneth Eugene Hedrick, 91, of Hutchinson, died July 13, 2019, at his home. He was born September 21, 1927, in Wichita, to John and Marie (Johnson) Hedrick.

Ken graduated from Wichita East High School in 1945 and Wichita State University in 1949. While at Wichita State, he played varsity football. Ken then attended the University of Kansas School of Medicine, graduating in 1953 and married Marie Joanne ‘Jo’ Lowrey that same year. From 1953-1956, Ken was a surgeon for the United States Air Force in Udine, Italy, obtaining the rank of Air Force Captain. He then moved to Kansas City to complete his surgical residency, and upon completion, the family moved to Hutchinson in 1960.

Dr. Hedrick was a founding member of the Hutchinson Clinic in 1961. He was also one of the visionary leaders and board members involved in the building of Hutchinson Hospital. In addition, Ken served on the American College of Surgeons, the American Board of Surgery, and the Southwest Surgical Congress. Locally, he was a member of the Hutchinson National Bank Board, New Beginnings, Inc. Board, and Hutchinson Rotary Club. Dr. Hedrick retired in 1993, after serving as a physician and general surgeon for 33 years.

After retirement, Ken volunteered to be a surgeon for many mission trips, including Honduras, Jamaica, and The Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, NM. Ken’s hobbies and interests included anything outdoors: golf, tennis, mountain backpacking, river rafting, skiing, and spending time with his family.

Ken is survived by: Jo, his wife of 66 years; children, Nancy Mullen and husband Kevin of Wichita, KS, Max Hedrick and wife Melanie of McKinney, TX, Jane Hedrick of Bozeman, MT, eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2019, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. The casket will remain closed and friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Beginnings, Inc. or Trinity United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Debra Kay Mansur, 64, of Hutchinson, died July 12, 2019. She is survived by: sons, Dan (Liz) Mansur, Josh (Molly) Mansur, and Aaron (Logan) Mansur; brother, Wayne Whitehurst; sister, Glenda Hines; and five grandchildren.

Debra was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harold Mansur. No services are planned. Arrangements by Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson.

Randy Lee Messner, 57, of Hutchinson, died July 11, 2019. He is survived by his mother, Alberta of Hutchinson, and sisters, Debbie Swick (Rick) of Gardner and Tanya Mobley (Murray), of Hutchinson.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Floyd. Per Randy’s wishes, no services are planned. Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, is in charge of arrangements.
