Harold Eugene Washburn, 73, of Hutchinson, died February 25, 2019, at his home. He was born June 20, 1945, in Hutchinson, to Robert G. and Bertha L. (King) Washburn.

Harold graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1963 and attended Fort Hays State University, Hutchinson Community College, and Kansas State University. He served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. Harold worked in the experimental lab at Cessna, the Parks Department of the city of Hutchinson, and retired from Kansas Department of Transportation. He loved wood carving, fishing, hunting, and gardening.

On July 16, 1966, Harold married Jeanette M. Roth in Hutchinson. They shared 52 years of marriage. She survives.

Also surviving are: nieces, Tina Fulton (John), Greensburg, Lori Reynolds, Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Anita Partridge (Bill), Fort Scott, Marsha Klassen, Buhler; several great-nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elizabeth Sies.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2019, at Elliott Chapel. Military honors will be conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Casual dress is encouraged. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.  Memorials are suggested to Delos V. Smith Senior Center, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Joseph Alan ‘Joe’ Milburn, of Hutchinson, 66, died Sunday February 24, 2019. He was born January 16, 1953, in Hutchinson, to Merle E. Sr. and Frances (Rank) Milburn.

He graduated high school in Denver, Colorado. Joe was a sheet rocker by trade. Favorites past times were hunting and fishing.

He is survived by: significant other, Lona Skinner of Hutchinson; daughter, Josey Berendsen of Tyndall, South Dakota; grandson, Dominque Stout of Hutchinson; one sister and three brothers.

There will be no services for Joe. Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson, are in charge of arrangements.

Karen Lyn (Werner) Tommer, 45, passed away February 23, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born in Attica to Karl and Donna (Bridgeman) Werner, and educated at Cunningham High School, Kansas State University-Salina, and later Wichita State University in business administration. She shared 21 years of marriage with her husband, Wayne.

Karen was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and remained in remission for 4 ½ years. Upon its return, she left the workforce to focus on time with her family, while continuing to receive treatments.

Karen is survived by: husband, Wayne; son, Hayden; daughter, Kerstin; mother, Donna Werner; sister, Karla Westerman and husband Jerry; brother-in-law, Mike Gillen; and four nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her father, Karl Werner, and sister, Janene Gillen.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Karen’s life will be 2 p.m. March 2, 2019, at Shalom Mennonite Church, 800 East 1st St., Newton. Inurnment will take place with family at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Zenda. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Camp Kesem, a community developed to support children whose lives have been affected by their parent’s cancer, or Karen Tommer Memorial Fund, in the care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Michael ‘Mike’ Alonzo, 91, of Hutchinson, died February 22, 2019, at his home with his loving wife by his side.  He was born May 8, 1927, in Hutchinson, to Dario and Teofila (Castor) Alonzo.

Mike graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1945.  He served in the United States Army for 26 years, retiring April 30, 1976, as a Sergeant Major.  After retirement from the United States Army, Mike worked as general contractor.  Mike was a huge KU fan, enjoyed golfing, and to his family, was known as a workaholic. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church.

On January 19, 1966, he married Kyoung Chun in Seoul, Korea.  Mike and Kyoung met while he was serving in the United States Army during the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict.  They shared 53 years of marriage.

Mike is survived by:  wife, Kyoung of Hutchinson; daughter, Jackie Suiter and husband Dale of Divide, CO; grandchildren, Benjamin Appel of Lawrence, Samantha Appel of Columbus, OH, Brennan Stewart of Kansas City, MO, Meghan Stewart of Wichita, Mitchell Stewart, Michael Stewart, both of Hutchinson; brothers,  Joe, Tony; and sister, Minnie.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; daughter, Eufemia Steierl; brothers, Don, John, James, Richard, Fred Sr; and sisters, Jay Alonzo and Marina Alonzo Davis.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Larry Wedel officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.  Cremation will follow the funeral service.  Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.  Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County or the American Lung Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.

Ray L. Kauffman, 78, died February 22, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born December 24, 1940, in Belleville, PA, to Roy S. and Katie (Yoder) Kauffman Sr.

Ray worked as a truck driver for Zimmerman Trucking, C.C. Boring Trucking, T & E Oil and Groendyke Transport, and part-time for Central Prairie Co-op. He enjoyed antique tractors and was a huge Penn State fan. After retirement, Ray enjoyed working with horses and cattle, but his greatest love and joy were his grandchildren. Ray was a member of the Great Plains Antique Tractor Club and Maranatha Mennonite Church.

On July 18, 1964, he married Mary Yutzy on the family farm in Hutchinson. They shared almost 55 years of marriage.
Ray is survived by: wife, Mary of Hutchinson; sons, Chuck of Park City, Ken and wife Sharon of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Kelsey, Dustin, Corey, Myles and Becca (twins), Kaylah, Haley, Maddison; siblings, Esther Fisher, Barb Hedrick, Judy Patterson and husband Larry, Roy S. Kauffman, Jr.; in-laws, Maynard Yutzy and wife Jaynie, Esther Rohla, LaVern Yutzy and wife Kathy; and former daughter-in-law, Candy Kauffman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Verton ‘Bert’ Yutzy.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at Maranatha Mennonite Church, 3115 Blanchard SW, Hutchinson, with Pastors Paul Nisly and Chad Eigsti officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Maranatha Mennonite Church. Memorials may be made to the church or Central Pennsylvania Youth Ministries, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
