Brad Burhite, 45, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was called Home to meet the Lord on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, after a valiant battle with lung cancer. Funeral Mass:  10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Reverend Steve Garner. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. A Rosary Service will begin at 4 p.m., and a Vigil Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment: 11 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2018, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Bradley John Burhite was born September 23, 1973, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Michael Sr. and Jane (Chappelle). He attended Jefferson High School, and later became a truck driver, most recently working as a delivery sales driver for Anderson Erickson Dairy. He met Billie Hughes by chance in an elevator at Mount Mercy University, walked her to her car, and asked for a date. She obliged, and they were married September 8, 2000, in Cedar Rapids. Brad “Donut” and Billie “Muffin” renewed their vows on May 26^th of this year at St. Matthew Catholic Church, where they had become members several years earlier. Brad enjoyed golfing, racing, bowling, and gambling. He belonged to the PGA, Hawkeye Downs Hornets, and local golf and car clubs. He liked to drive his boys around in his restored 1955 Buick Century, and travel, especially to the ocean and Grand Canyon. Brad treasured the time spent with his beloved family, telling stories and messing with everyone around the family fire pit. He had a unique sense of humor, was the kindest person, and will be sincerely missed by his loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, including Richard Burhite and Delores Briner; stepmother, Ellen; uncles, Skip and Gus; and dogs, Rocky and Abbey.

Evelyn Cole Gardner, 98, of Hutchinson, died December 5, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born January 3, 1920, in Arlington, KS, to Perry and Bessie (Dodd) Cole.

She taught in one-room schools at Riverton and Pleasant Hill prior to getting married. She then taught first grade at Arlington Grade School for 19 years.

On December 18, 1944, she married John L. Gardner in Kingman, KS. He died May 4, 2014. Survivors include: son, Tom Gardner of Derby; daughters, Virginia Fitzpatrick of Lake Dallas, TX, and Carolyn McInteer of Minneola, KS; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, John L. Gardner; brothers, Everett, Lawrence and Perry Jr.; and sister, Elsie Webber.

Friends may sign the book from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday December 8, 2018, with the family present from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. A private family graveside service will take place at Lerado Cemetery.

Robert L. ‘Bob’ Arpin, 82, of Hutchinson, died December 4, 2018, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born June 19, 1936, in Longford, Kansas to Ronald and Laura (Ouellette) Arpin.

Bob graduated from Clyde High School in 1954 and served two years in the United States Army. He was a machinist for Carey Salt for 35 years. Bob was a member of V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361, Knights of Columbus Council #612, and St. Teresa Catholic Church, Hutchinson.

On August 9, 1958, he married Ruth Odette in Clifton, Kansas. Bob is survived by: his wife of 60 years, Ruth of Hutchinson; daughter, Kim McLain of Hutchinson; sons, Scott Arpin and wife Beth of Kechi, KS, Tony Arpin of Hutchinson; sister, Agnes ‘Marie’ Marcotte; brother, Vincent Jerome ‘Jerry’ Arpin and wife Carolyn, all of Hutchinson; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: both parents; brother, Francis Eugene ‘Gene’ Arpin; sister, Dorothy ‘Joann’ Simpson; sister-in-law, Carolyn Sue Arpin; and brothers-in-law, J.L. Simpson and Leland ‘Lee’ Marcotte.

Parish Rosary will be 6 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2018, both at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 E. 5th, Hutchinson, with Father Michael J. Maybrier officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

Cheryl Kay Atkinson, 70, died December 4, 2018, at her home in Hutchinson. She was born September 19, 1948, to Virgil L. and Ella Josephine (Breidenstein) Plummer.

Cheryl graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1967 and Sidney’s Beauty College. She enjoyed working in beauty shops that her husband, Dennis, built for her. Cheryl was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and attended CrossPoint Church.

In 1973, she married Dennis Lynn Atkinson at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

Cheryl is survived by: husband, Dennis; son, Neil Atkinson; grandchildren, Jacey Trower, Morgan Atkinson, Kaylynn Atkinson, Emma Atkinson, Easton Atkinson, Casen Atkinson; and best friends, Helen Stowell, Lynn Miller, and Sandi Bredvick.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Paul Thurston presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday with family present from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.

Charlene ‘Charn’ Cornett began her new life in heaven on December 2, 2018. Charlene was born in Burrton, Kansas, July 27, 1931, to Chester C. and Faye L. Collins.

She was employed by the State Bank of Burrton for 36 years. Charlene was a member of the Burrton United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Eastern Star, and Junior Nova Vista, all of Burrton. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, fishing, singing in the church choir, and sewing. She was a very devoted sister and aunt.

On July 30, 1949, she married William R. Cornett, who preceded her in death December 1, 2015.

Charlene was also preceded in death by one brother, Harold E. Collins and both parents, Chester C. and Faye L. Collins.

Charlene is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie L. and Joseph D. Pearce of Burrton. She was and is loved by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, along with great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Burrton United Methodist Church, 114 West Center Street, Burrton, with Pastor Kim Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in Burrton Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
